So BBC news has a top ten most read as a front page.

A report on the Kenyan massacre recently reappeared which gave me an idea.

Can we change the whole top ten or get something in there? I have some articles below that may be good. It is the news front page for many people in the UK and most people just gloss over the headlines.

Illegal immigrant raped girl

Illegal immigrant Hamidullah Hamidi jailed for rape of girl, 14

Bumping, this is a good idea.
This is the front page of the internet for many normal Brits/
>>
Pretty good idea, anon. I'm in.
>>
Any web devs familiar with a poll like this? Any date bounds, or smoothing algorithms?

I'm Game Doubles get to pick the article?

If anyone can answer this so we don't waste our time, count me in.
>>
bump because good idea
>>
maybe we should just pick one to focus on? Once we have that we can then work on others.

I've seen things from years ago on there, I'm sure it's just a visitor count from 00:00-23:59 that day, probably counted using a cookie rather than unique ip

im a programmer not web developer, but the polling likely tallies based on get requests.

im using:

for i in {1..10000}; do curl http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-27113719; done
>>
>>55829962
it's articles on the BBC CMS only

>>55830249
decent. let's go with this one as the tester

>Can we change the whole top ten or get something in there?

THis has happened before to BBC, there have been really old articles that resurface in popularity and shot up to the top ten, old stories have made it to the #1 spot before

they are aware of this, not sure if they have fixed it though.
>>
i think they like to have old articles come up. they are often related to factual programming that is being shown.

so they promote the fact that they are programming to meed the publics' needs
>>
>>55830492
So what are we doing clicking and refreshing link?
>>

Holy shit. I forgot about that being an option.

Any easier way of doing it than repeatedly clicking link? What was the American guy above saying about programming and shit?

Based OP. Let's do this.

there was some good sripts from the recent football game poll fix
>>
>>55828948

Good idea but those articles you linked are old as fuck, it doesn't work like that. Everything on most popular is still going to be recent stuff.

>>
>>55832381
bbc regularly has old articles come up as a result of disussion. it actually gives the articles more gravity, as they aren't just read because they are new.

I'm doing it through TOR broswer with the setting to switch exit nodes each time
>>
>>55833381
damn, that's a good idea
sadly I'm too dumb to script an auto-refresher
>>
If someone can tell me a way to make this anon tell me and I will make the adjustment. Tor takes a while to load up but I can only do it if TOR is the default browser. Here it is though!

drag n drop it as a bookmarklet to your bookmarks bar in torbrowser, set the exitnode to refresh each page, load the page, hit the bookmarklet...

thousands more hits an hour:

If people are that bothered I'm sure they wil look beyond a top ten.

BBC often use the list to cross advertise their shows so it's hardly journalistic gold

Shit, even I know of a immigrant from Sudan raping a under-age girl just this month. But that probably just made the ass-end of the local paper. Can't bring attention to shitty people who aren't white, right
