Trying to put complex ideologies like socialism or libertarianism on a left-right axis is like trying to figure out where a banana falls on the blueberry-mango axis. Ideologies are distinct entities, not points on a gradient. Some ideologies may be related to each other, like a tiger is related to a lion, and as such it may make sense to say that communism is "closer" to socialism than it is to libertarianism, but plotting ideologies on a graph is nothing but trying to make your gut-feeling seem more objective and scientific than it is.
