You might want to sit down and take a hard look at how much each of you are making and your expenses. Some couples find that the cost of working eats into income so much that it's not that much different for one person to stay home. Though it doesn't work for every couple, some are able to get by with only one car if only one person works. Also many things like convenience meals can be replaced with less expensive homemade meals because there is someone at home to do that. Same with bargain shopping. Having someone taking care of the home and finances full time can bring in savings you aren't considering. If you have a child, avoiding daycare expenses is a huge savings. Probably not quite as much as the salary of the person staying home would be if they worked but the difference can be much smaller than you think.
