That is part of why I think it's a test. It's actually the perfect test when you think about it. If you 100% knew God existed, you would know not to disobey because that was proven to be false, but then you could never be truly tested as a being because you already knew the smart thing to do.
With this, it's testing what you do when you don't know if he's there. Will you be good or bad? It's up to you and God will judge you accordingly when you die. I think we all have instinct of what is good or bad on some level, even if we like to twist it and pretend things aren't.

I would say, if you want to get a feel for God is, pray a lot. It seriously works. The purpose of the book is to show you all the shit which isnt in your interest, and all the things which will lead to bite you in the ass, and simply tells you "do this, dont do this" instead of you spending your life figuring these things out.

I don't want to get too into theology but a lot of these questions are answered in very serious books like City of God by St. Augustine and Summa Theologica by St Thomas Aquinas. You never die. Your doings will have forever impact in the heritage of your family. Your atoms will one day become food for other living beings, maybe you'll be part of a star or another planet. Most people live longer than they think. Often thousands and thousands of years. I don't think we're alone in the universe, but I also think that our perception of the universe is largely inspired by pop culture media today like star wars and star trek. A lot of times we think it's just planets of other life forms that evolved differently, etc and that may be the case, but it's also possible that they were brought into existence for entirely different purposes than we were. Remember that the universe is enormous and we are just one creation with our own story (depending on what you believe) as a species. We don't know what else is going on out there but I can assume we're not meant to be communicating with them and they have their own trials or tests they are going through (just my own personal speculation, I really have no clue).
Another thing I find interesting is that we view the universe in such a mechanical way. We know there are other dimensions of existence, with us living in the third. How do we not know there are other creatures living in higher dimensions of existence that we just can't perceive because we are living in a third dimension (and seeing in two dimensions with depth perception)?
I know I'm going way out there and obviously I don't know what's going on, but the point of my post is to say that I think it's much much crazier than we even think it is right now and there is so much we still don't know about existence that it's kind of beautiful. But it's not important we even know that stuff I think. What is important is our current trial going on right now. Will we ever know that stuff one day? Who knows, that is what makes it fun to think about. Remember God is creator of the 'seen and unseen', there is a lot going on that we don't know about, but just live life being a good person and don't bother attempting to figure it all out, because I don't think we're meant to.

I had extreme death anxiety before i became a teenager, i was so afraid of death that every time for example an airplane flew by i thought the sound was a meteor about to destroy the earth and kill me. I was in a constant state of fear.
Even to this day like 20 years later, i get uneasy looking into the sky and feeling like i'm going to get pulled into a black hole and that there's a giant fire ball in the sky.
