France delivered arms to Syrian rebels (ISIS), Hollande confirms
http://m.france24.com/en/20140821-france-arms-syria-rebels-hollande

"Syria must be overthrown to avoid revenge for what we've done to them" - Saudi cable
https://www.wikileaks.org/saudi-cables/doc110212.html

"Classified US plan to whip up Sunni fears about Shiites in order to overthrow Syria"
https://www.wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/06DAMASCUS5399_a.html#efmBo4Bz8

Paris attacks are the entirely predictable consequence of funding, training and arming Sunni extremists in Syria and Libya for years.

>>
>>55744383

Like FranceBro said, this is how you end conflicts like these, offer the belligerents a non-violent compromise solution and make the alternative burning hell. Russia has been talking about a diplomatic solution for years now so this is nothing new and they even hosted some closed door talks between Syrian Gov and some of the non-US puppet opposition in Moscow this spring

Am I right in saying Mosul will eventually be starved off as there's no supply line from Syria anymore?

>>
>>55744248

Well the initial protests were't Islamis at all, they were anti-sectarian and pro-democracy.

The Jihadi Problem started when Assad began shooting down said protesors, and when neighbouring countries (Turkey, Saudi Arabia in particular) sent arms and men to Syria to carry out Jihad.

The nice friendly pro-democracy got crushed between Assad on one side, and the Islamists on the other side, leaving only Assad (who is a brutal dictator) and the Islamists (who are even worse) left on the battlefield.

It's the universal rule of violent revolutions - all the nice guys who want pluralism and democracy etc die first.

It is not new there were a lot of Assad fanboys but they were challenged a lot about questions of torturing innocents and dropping bombs on hospitals and using chemical weapons

Now that are unchallenged since the islamists have proven themselves to be more immoral

At first the syrian situation was just tunisian style protests in the street and assad started shooting on them so people were pissed at him.

Now people him ironically as a last bastion of sanity in the country.

I don't know if the FSA still exists today. At first they presented themselves as the armed front of an eventual secular democratic regime. Now all that wishful thinking is gone.

>>
>>55745010
The FSA exists but is mostly irrelevant. They are in an alliance with dozens of head-chopping groups including Al Qaeda. Their job is to, by being aligned with these groups, elevate them all to the status of Moderate Rebels allowing the US to openly arm Al Qaeda while calling them moderates. When you see a map depicting "rebel territory" and it's like 1/4 of the country, that's not FSA territory, it's territory loosely controlled by these head-chopping groups.
>>
>>55745010
When the syrian uprising happened, it was hijacked by men with guns. They were the first to start shooting at syrian army/police monitoring the demonstrations. It's pretty well documented, along with the fact that Assad was not able to gas his own civilians. If you look at the majority of actual evidence you see the involvement of outside forces like the turks and saudi's and puppydog states of qatar etc destabilising a democratically elected government. Go shill your poor control of the english language elsewhere.

There's still a lot of other smuggling routes through the desert, but this will make it much more expensive for people to get basic food and necessities.

The US strategy has been to try and cut off Mosul and Raqqa but without large numbers of reliable to enforce it that would be impossible.
>>
>>55745267

Yup - probably because that's the country which is of least geo-political significance, so neighbouring states had less reason to intervene in the process, and because Tunisia is much more secular than most countries in the middle-east.
>>
>>55744838

Syrian passports are forged and sold as currency by smugglers quite regularly.
>>
>>55743231
It's become impossible for the rebels to win, so a great number of the fractions will accept anything as long as they are not killed. The ones that will not sign on will have to be dealt with, but there is no hope for them.

A diplomatic solution takes all those forces that know it's over out of the picture, at the price of some minor concessions as opposed to continued expenditure of manpower. The true extremists will now be ground down.

Think of it as the eastern front in late '44: all the nations like Hungary, Romania and Finland were simply folding, leaving only the Germans to fight on (and needing to occupy those countries to boot). The role of Germany is Al Nusra and IS.

here are a couple takes i have read so far

a) they were ISIS and may or may have not been "real" Syrians - either way, the main goal was to demonize the arriving refugees to fuel the fire

b) it was a false flag to either
- create a pretense for the casus foederis and invade Syria
or
- create a pretense for finally closing the borders (otherwise a change of policy wouldn't be credible)
or
- a combination of both

It's not really a result of Russia, though. Over 90% of their bombing campaign has been hitting non-ISIS rebels. Which is fine for Russia, as they want all of the rebels dealt with so Assad can stay in power. Compare the USA, which is trying indirectly oust Assad by supporting "moderate" rebels and by bombing and drone-murdering the fuck out of ISIS, as the international community doesn't care if we blast those hajis.

Russia's kind of indirectly responsible, I guess? By stepping up their involvement, they forced us to amp up our campaign so that we don't lose the dick measuring contest.

Well the thing is we are bombing places where ground syrian army is about to go and they are mainly taking land back from rebels(although there is some Isis at Aleppo), so obviously bombing Raqqua is kinda pointless since no one gonna reach it anytime soon. And Isis is not Yugoslavia they wont surrender because of the bombings and the damage done, we will actually have to kill all of them or force them to retreat to Iraq atleast.

Also i dont know why dont we just nuke Raqqah, does Assad and the world govs are stil caring about civilians there or what? Maybe you guys know?

When the generals began, maybe.

Originally I was in support of the fsa until I started seeing what was going on. The terrorists being now seen as freedom fighters.

I remember when Isis sprung up out of fucking nowhere and there was 3 different fronts between the rebels. That's when officially I changed entirely to supporting Assad. I'm sure many others had the same transition, due to us not knowing much about the situation and the groups other than le Arab Spring momentum.

The decision to unleash the Shabiah militia on protestors was taken by Assad, and that decision was taken regardless of any violence that had taken place. Families involved in the protests were abducted, people were tortured, it was only after this that the revolution began to degenerate into full on violence.

Once it had gone this, neighbouring countries flooded Syria with weapons and jihadists, which displaced the Syrian protestors (who tended to be fairly middle-class and pro-democratic) with Islamic fundamentalists, all with the prior blessing and support of the West.

I don't understand why IS are killing the non-believers when they can do better to use them for means of production. After all, the millions of people who belong to ethnic groups and religious sects that conflict with IS could provide so much more by showing up to work every day and paying taxes than they could by being dead.
Only when you take everything that belongs to a dead person can they provide any value to you, but if you let them work, buy, and sell things then that person can provide everything to IS over a lifetime of working and being taxed.

But no, they're too caught up on their silly conquest. They could've won this war, and created a new hegemony in the Middle East by now, but they've been too busy about the wastelands purifying the infidel.

What a crock of shit. You Baath party drop outs know nothing of imperialism.

Here is a picture of Cyrus, who was Persian, and knew how to handle the masses. He didn't just run around and kill people for their dogma. He turned them into wage earners and servants to his glorious empire. What do you know about that IS, or shall your greatest claim to fame in history be shooting up a bunch of patrons at a Deftones concert?

But seriously, Kerry is already trying to argue that Assad and ISIS are allied at some defacto level because "They don't fight each other." He completely ignores everything about what happened around Kweires, and the Aleppo supply route capture less than 2 weeks ago.
I can all but guarantee they will spin something like Assad being the primary ally/supporter/enabler/creator of ISIS as their reasons for wanting to take him down if they get the chance to push into Syria with NATO.

That's how you can tell that ISIS is completely honest with what it says it wants, what it's going to do and why.

They don't care about "efficiency" or "profit" if it even slightly strays off their dogma. That's why no amount of posturing, scheming or bluffing will impress them.

All that needs to be done is to face them honestly, and fill their bodies with honest lead.
