I pass FAA Medical exams every 6 months. I am in peak condition for someone of my age. It will be hard, but would not only pass Basic, but I would do well.

i'm 29 and joining the guard in 2016.
got a bunch of ex-army and ex-guardsmen in my peer group who have walked me through it.
fortunately i live close enough to one of the two Special Forces locations (yes, national guard get them too) that if i make selection, i can still drive there for drill.
i'm in the best shape of my life. i've injured my knees before but i know how to cover it up / push through it.
you're going to get called dad / grandpa a lot.
you're going to run into a lot of stupid bullshit, don't complain about it, just make things work no matter what.
you may get promoted quicker especially if you start showing leadership. a good place to start practicing this is to make sure that everyone graduates with you that you possibly can, teamwork motherfucker. this will not go un-noticed.
you're also going to fuck your knees up so stay in long enough to get paid replacements.
