Love for all of my brothers and sisters and Christ, love for all who hate and love us.
Questions and answers welcome.
Post Orthodox art, music and sayings.
For those who want to get into Dostoevsky, I uploaded the P&V translation (the best, in my opinion, of all Dostoevsky translations) to Notes from Underground, here: https://7chan.org/lit/res/3532.html#17492
It's second to bottom
You can download the Philokalia (the Orthodox Summa Theologica) here: http://gen.lib.rus.ec/book/index.php?md5=E81796BB2462CF353BBF5882FC855ABD
>Since man came into being composed of noetic soul and sentient body, one interpretation could be the tree of life is the soul's intellect, which is the seat of wisdom. The tree of knowledge of good and evil would then be the body's power of sensation, which is clearly the seat of mindless impulses. Man received the divine commandment not to involve himself actively and experimentally with these impulses, but he did not keep the commandment.

Is that fresco for real? Which church is it in?
>>55671666
It's a Coptic icon (all the 21 martyrs have been made saints by the Church), it's in a monastery.
>>55672373
why is it in german?

Because before the icon was given to a monastery, it was displayed in a German museum for purposes of publicity. The plan is to sell it and give the money to the families of the victims.

What are your origins to be making an Orthodox general sporting a US flag?
>>55674747
We have plenty of Orthodox parishes in the U.S., my friend, and there is even an Orthodox Church of America.
I'm Greek Orthodox.

How does the church rationalise it's position with the abject liberalism of the American Secualr system? DESU I don't think you'll be able to offer any answer that I won't dismiss out of hand but I'd be curious to know what your public position is. I am almost completely against everything America is or has to offer humanity and am *totally* convinced it will either completely collapse at some point or metamorphise into a completely matriarchal (materialist) state. Given the American experiment is still only a little more than a couple of centuries old I think it's probably the case that the US as a society hasn't even reached the point at which it must make some critical existential decisions as to what it's identity is.
A completely fluid identity only leads to eventual insanity.

Why does the Church need to approve of America's abject liberalism? Sure, more than half of Catholics in the U.S. support gay marriage, but that's not how it goes with Orthodox Christians.
You're right about identity and *tradition*, though.
