I was bummed about the Russian flight too but the reason this struck harder is because it played out live.
The Russian bombing happened in an instant and we weren't even sure it was a bombing at first. To be honest though I wish more support HAD been shown for the Russian victims and their families.

Pretty much this. If it was clear from the start that it was terrorism, then we would all have been furious. The thing is, the Russian government themselves denied it was terrorism and still are. Nothing is in question about the attacks today.
