In my cradle catholic experience (no longer practicing but Dad is a deacon and my whole immediate family is bible thumpin Catholics), American Catholics are terrified of another crusade and do their best to avoid talking about the mistakes they've made in the past. They weigh in on some political issues (abortion, gay marriage), but the majority won't even touch racial issues, so I doubt it would happen from American Catholics.

I was raised half-Catholic in the Midwest and I remember when I was about thirteen the priest asked people to wear white on some certain day to show solidarity with undocumented workers for being fellow Catholics.
