Well Christanity is still very much alive albeit not as intrusive into our lives here in the western world.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that it died but perhaps you're right in that it's influence has died. If you compare it to Muslim states that are literally governed based on Islam you can see where the problem arises.
On one side there are people who are living freely and on the other there are those who have no choice but to live under barbaric laws interpreted from a dated rule-book.
