What are we closer to ?
Brave new world or 1984?

Smart New World for Sure.
Brave new world.

Find it.
Neither, both books portray futures resulting from trends the authors are weary of and extrapolated to ridiculous degrees. The world has progressed beyond anything the two could have imagined.
>>55572682
Trending towards 1984 at this point. Thoughtcrime and doublethink have been embraced by an increasingly growing amount of authoritarians that openly speak of suppressing human rights for the sake of 'tolerance' and 'multiculturalism'. The government doesn't give a damn about trying to put up a facade of sincerity and innocence anymore because they know millions will defend their every action and will drag the rest down in trivial debates until opposing these actions constitutes hate speech, now a crime.

To be fair senpai we still haven't started mass cloning a slave cast yet.
1984
brave new world starts with a laboratory where children are grown and nurtured into different classes
The Origins of Totalitarianism by Hannah Arendt.

It's a little funny they relate Brave New World to Fascism, the two are talking about completely different things here.
Remember that these two were contemporaries and they both corresponded with one another to the effect 'your version is silly the world will look like this'.
Orwell was taking pot shots at Brave New World before 1984 was even published let alone finished.

What about "We"? This novel is not as famous as BNW or 1984, but it perfectly describes morden society, I think.
>>55574319
>George Orwell believed that Brave New World must have been partly derived from the novel We by Yevgeny Zamyatin.[10] However, in a 1962 letter, Huxley says that he wrote Brave New World long before he had heard of We.[11] According to We translator Natasha Randall, Orwell believed that Huxley was lying.[12]

Came to say this.
On the one hand we have cultural marxism tearing down all moral and social structures of the West, as well as SJWs creating and enforcing hate-thought laws and witch-hunts for anything deemed even slightly bigoted, and the constant maintenance of such censorship though the victimhood culture finding a new oppressed group nearly every year.
On the other the huge surplus in technology has made it so much easier than ever imaginable to overdose on fufilling basic pleasures such as internet porn, abundance of delicious but not-so-healthy food, etc. not to mention the above has created a feelings-first mentality amog much of the populace, and though and so much choice in everything that it beomes a large distraction(though, it's a more natural progression from the benefits of capitalism, but it's coupled with the lack of restraint in society these days).
1984 from SJW
Brave new world for nearly everyone else.
To quote Rick Roderick: " Orwell’s vision of a horrible future which was a boot stomping on a human face forever is a utopian image because he assumes there would be resistance and human faces; both of which may turn out to be false."
No one will fight back once 1984 gets full control.
Neither, we are much closer to the world described in pic related.

If any people on this website had actually read 1984 they'd realize that it's not close to reality today.

Brave New World, but the future is Neither.
In both books, the powers that be kept the population around for some reason. Somehow people were needed. In fact people aren't needed going into our future. People will start violently defending their niches, and we'll head toward techno-feudalism. Long term it might be like that Asimov planet populated by very few insanely wealthy people that never talk to each other except to rarely exchange genes. But the robots will be running the show behind the scenes, and might outright take over.
Brave New World was soft-control and the trains ran on time ( That's us really ).
1984 was hard control, and things were broken but it was all 'double-plus good' ( The trains run on time, so no need for 1984 yet )
its like a mix, nad they honestly go hand in hand, what happens is that a bunch cultural marxists push for progress and it turns into a brave new world style life for a while, then the waves of idiots who can't control themselves turn in tides against eachother, and the government goes to a 1984 control system but no one notices because they are too drugged up.
Both 1984 and Brave New World warned us of what we see happening today.
Both Orwell and Huxley are rolling in their graves.
>Brave New World
-Everyone fucks each other mindlessly
-Everyone self medicates with illegal drugs and alcohol
-Everyone who thinks outside the box is given legal drugs
-Everyone is content with their digital wombs
-Everyone is obsessed with sex and popularity
>1984
-Everyone has fully accepted unrestrictable government surveillance without a fight
-Everyone who thinks outside the views of the Baby Boomer, 60's establishment is ostracized and outcasted
-Everyone is trained how to think in government funded brain washing camps (universities)
-Freedom of Speech is being slowly eroded
-Freedom to Bear Arms is being slowly eroded
-Freedom of Movement is being slowly eroded
-Everyone blames their problems on a strawman/scapegoat, instead of self critiquing and contributing to society.
Pretty much the worst aspects of both, although we obviously haven't gone to the extent of FUCKED in the fictional worlds.
THERE'S STILL TIME

The reverse will happen; CEOs will be made to step down for misoginy if they don't hire women with gender studies degrees, or are shown to express opinions that deviate from the norm. Like with Firefox's CEO.
