William Blum: The CIA A Forgotten History has been extensively updated and rewritten and retitled Killing Hope
https://mega.nz/#fm/EEJWTZoL
It is the single best go-to resource for the American Empire. It documents every instance of overt and covert aggression since WWII. Invading countries, proxy wars, overthrowing governments, supporting friendly dictators, criminal enterprises. A chapter for every instance and there are over 50 chapters. Heavily footnoted so you can then go from the chapter to whole books on the matters.
Leslie Cockburn: Out of Control
Written almost in real time as the 80s Dirty Wars were unfolding
Jonathan Kwitny: The Crimes of Patriots
Many of the same names appear when you read about Iran-Contra/Dirty Wars and the CIA/Golden Triangle shenanigans a decade earlier. What were they doing in the meantime, between the end of Vietnam and Reagan? They were banking in Australia.
The Nugan Hand Bank was established in Australia in 1973 by a local shyster Frank Nugan and an American Green Beret Michael Hand and was extensively staffed by many men with little banking or legal experience but newly retired from intelligence, special forces, and military logistics.
It amassed huges sums of money, had branches in such exotic locations as Chiang Mai and Vientine; and crashed spectacularly as Frank Nugan committed suicide, all assets were wiped out, all paperwork shredded, and Michael Hand disappeared.
Whatever was it doing?
laundering the money the CIA made in the Golden Triangle
This is your best source of information on the bank outside Australia. If you cant track it down Killing Hope and Politics of Heroin 2nd have summaries.
Michael Hand has also just recently been found alive and well:

Alfred W. McCoy: The Politics of Heroin
The single best source on US government covert activities and its links to narcotrafficking.
The book was extensively updated in 1992 with new information and new chapters in Contras+cocaine and Mujadadeen+heroin, the War on Drugs, a summary of Nugan Hand, etc.
PBS Frontline: Guns, Drugs, and the CIA

Bill Moyers: The Secret Government The Constitution in Crisis

I'd also recommend
Holly Sklar: Washingtons War on Nicuragua
Titles pretty self explanatory
Bob Parry: Lost History
Parry broke the Iran-Contra story and this book collates and expands his original writings, he became increasingly marginalized in the 1980s as he pursed the story and today is on the fringe of the media.
The Kerry Report
John Kerry conducted his own investigation that went much deeper than the senate subcommittee sideshow and drew some strong connections between where the ultimate authority and orders and Contra cocaine money were coming and going from and the father of the man he would someday stand in an election against.
What do you have to say for yourself Murika?
Thanks, op. I'll give it a read after work.
