English here. I've always taken based Scruton's view that while as a result of being on the same island our two countries will always have a strong bond, an independent Scotland would allow that relationship to grow healthily instead of fester in mutual distrust and anger at both groups' treatment of each other. I don't want to end up disliking you guys, but that's the way things are going (as I'm sure they are in reverse). We joined our countries for empire and with it gone, a different relationship makes sense.

If we break down the referendum results into council areas, apparently Barra, Vatersay, Eriksay and South Uist voted 72.4% to leave the UK. However the Outer Hebrides voted slightly No due to the social conservatism of Stornoway.

Which is not true at all. Scotland formed a Union with England when the Parliament of England gave the throne to a SCOTTISH King. This is what formed Britain.
Now, we can argue all day about how this is no bueno once the Stuarts lost the throne due to their own incompetence, but this does not remove the fact that the Clans and Nobility in Scotland stuck with the Union. The unified parliament even agreed to give the throne to that Dutch war hero because he was good at killing Spaniards.
The rest is History. Scotland was as much an author of the British Empire as England was. They were not some oppressed minority. They were active participants in the conquest of the world.

Not really. I'm Scottish and I grew up with some English people at school and they weren't picked on more than other people. But if they did cause trouble or annoy people they were usually made fun of for being English. Just like you'd make fun of someone for having glasses, being fat or being ugly if they annoyed you and they were those things.
I go to college in Glasgow and my tutor is from the East End of London with a really thick Cockney accent. When he'd had a little drink at an art show we were attending he said he'd never had trouble for being English for the 20 plus years he'd lived here.
