Poland isn't really comparable to the United States, because we never had any destructive wars that set us back, and we have a huge net population gain, with a lot of minorities. Granted, in the 1950's, we only had like 20% population consisting of minorities, but still, a sizable amount.
Poland is more homogeneous, until you start separating by whether they were Teutonic descended, Silesia descended, or what have you. America has always been a mixture of, at the very least, different Europeans.
