I definitely used to be a liberal democrat. I thankfully never reached SJW-tier though.
It was actually some proto SJW former friends of mine that kind of drove me away from it. They would chide me for not agreeing with them on something, even though at the time we agreed on like 90% of things. They kept moving further and further to the left, finding some new cause to champion on what felt like a weekly basis. They began to berate me for not taking up causes that didn't affect me or that I just didn't care about. After a while I stopped hanging out with them and started thinking for myself.
I bet SJWs have turned more people away from leftist ideologies than they've recruited.

Growing up in an extremely liberal city full of SJWs, my innate need to be a contrarian molded me into the exact opposite of them. I never bought into their shit, despite having it shoved down my throat all the time. My personality and mindset just go against their doctrine too much.

I never was an SJW.
My parents were always independent, and I was mostly a left leaning centrist.
Mostly because being left leaning between the 90's and '08 was still an ok thing that just mean you were pro-social programs and shit.
I still consider myself independent, and centered, but the ridiculous rampant extreme leftism has driven me hard right.
it doesnt help that none of the Democratic Candidates are viable at all. Bernie Sanders is WAY too idealistic, and IMO should just stay a senator, Hillary has always been and always will be way too hawkish and shrewd for my taste, and shes gone the way of "vote for me im a woman!" not to mention the whole pandering to every leftist interest ever. shes just not presidential material. the rest are literally who tier, and Jim Webb, the only viable GOOD candidate, is a fish out of water, and is just out of his time. If he'd run in the 80's or 90's, he mightve won no question because of the veteran angle, not to mention hes the only actually center candidate on EITHER side.
The right has been a joke ever since McCain lost, but Trump has been saying the shit I want to hear, and is, realistically, a right leaning centrist.
tldr the more extreme left USA's country politics and society get, the more right it drives me, previously a left leaning centrist
