its something about if you tan that means you have the luxury of being able to take a vacation to some nice beach. It's sort of a wealth indicator.
If you go on vacation to say, florida, or hawaii, or some other place like that, you'll get more of a tan than just going to the local beach for an hour or two on the weekend.
at least thats how i see it. It doesnt mean much anymore since everyone gets fake tans anyway.
