I don't see why we don't just focus on reuniting families. Refugees staying with family sponsors means less cost for the government. It also allows for easier vetting since we can do background checks on both sides.
Also, if you think this country is fucked because of a few refugees, you're letting your emotions cloud your judgment as much as people who were moved by the dead Syrian child. Europe's situation are not even remotely on the same level as Canada's. I know you like to feel solidarity with Europeans, but you can still do that while also thinking critically.
Millions of undocumented people flooding Europe is not even comparable to 25k people, proportionally or in absolute numbers, and I doubt Trudeau's government will even reach this number by the end of the year. Trust me, the logistics of this is a nightmare, and with our resources we already take in over 10k refugees each year. I'm all for keeping government accountable to campaign promises, but this is one which I think would be best done over the course of a year, not seven weeks. The fact of the matter is that many of these refugees are already safe in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, etc., so although their lives are essentially on hold, their lives are not in immediate danger and thus we should be prudent and plan this out in a reasonable way.
