As I said, we under-performed in many many ways. Many mistakes were made. For example the fact that many tank crews didn't see a tank in a year, let alone trained in one, so they have made glaring mistakes, like in the Seluki battle.
Our high leadership was indecisive as for all of the war except the last week, sending token forces here and there (only a few thousands soldiers have crossed the border up till the last 10 days-week when we pushed for 10k and then 30k in the last few days, which finished the war).
There were a lot more mistakes made by Israel, big and small.
And yet it was still enough to decisively defeat Hezballah forces and deter them from aggressive actions for at least a decade. The assassination of imad mughniyeh (as I said, second in command in Hezballah) which was met with no answer (deterrence at work), and the bombing of the Hezballah commanders that tried to open a front on the Golan, killing a 5-6 of high ranking Hezballah and Iranian generals was only responded with killing 1 low officer and 1 soldier.

Israel leaving Lebanon in 2000 pulled the rug from under the "legal" reason for hezballah remaining the only armed Lebanese militia. They had to have some justification so they kept on attacking Israel.
Down the line Hezballah is a different animal since 2006, they had to adapt, so they became a lot closer to the local Lebanese people (other than Shia) and got into politics with an established party.
Perhaps that's *part* of the reason why Nasrallah rushed to join the Syrian civil war like he did (many in Hezballah opposed his decision at the time), to regain said legitimacy.

Nope, In 1948 in some parts of the war we indeed had more troops than the combined forces of the Arab armies INSIDE Israel.
But then you're only counting the combat troops for the Arabs that are engaged in fighting.
But for Israel you are counting ALL of the troops alltogether and not just the fighting force.
Israeli administrative, logistics, medical, bureaucratic, financial, and intelligence corps were all INSIDE Israel all the time, so you count them, while they are not directly fighting. Their Arab counterparts are not counted because obviously they stayed in the rear.
A modern army has as much as 90% of it's force in non combat roles, in such a war perhaps it was down and 25-35% of the troops listed were actually combat troops as opposed to 10% in peace times.

He is only supporting some small Sunni groups on our border. we are embivalent when it comes to the larger picture.
Our goal is simply to ensure our border is not held by Hezballah fighters but by some Sunni militia. We give them some humanitarian aid and some non combative resources (I believe we also gave them medical equipment), and in return they keep the border peaceful.
But remember these are tiny organizations in the grand scheme.

What you mention about yearning for Israel: no, I think if whites controlled north America for 2000 years but lost Europe for the same period we would eventually stop caring about it. Definitely a clan of peoples who migrated from Italy to Sweden should not be intent on taking back Italy. Jews deserve a state of their own but the location causes a lot of problems that wouldn't be there in, say, east Europe.
