Well, I converted. It is true that converts don't have certain rights (a cohen can't mary a convert otherwise he loses his cohen-ship), but this is an exception more than a rule. I still have the right to get Israeli citizenship like all the other Jews, for example. As for the equality thing, that really differs from person to person. Some Jews may not consider you equal, some do, some even think you're better than them in a sense because you had to work for your Jewishness.
Logically, it makes no sense to exclude converts because first Jews were also converts.

That is also what I think and what I realized after I started studying Judaism, originally out of intellectual reasons than anything else. Well, you can say some of the aspects are anti-intellectual, but the thing is, if you take out these things out of a religion, it's no longer a religion. You just need to have some small rituals that affirm your identity. The main difference in Judaism is that you CAN break some of the rules if you can justify it and it's not considered a blasphemy. For example, many Jews write G-d instead of God out of reverence, but I don't because I believe it's a title (like Hashem), not his name. People also endlessly argue over what is and what isn't allowed during Shabbat and they explore every loophole if they can. Also, Jews don't obey all the commands because we fear we will go to hell if we don't, we do it because we believe God gave us some extra obligations. (This is what being Chosen People means, not anything insidious.)
I just like it that we don't follow everything blindly. God can make mistakes in Judaism and there are even stories where Jews tricked him. Something like that is unthinkable in Christianity.

I completely understand your stance, I was like you. Sometimes I still am, to be honest. As I said, it's fine to question your beliefs in Judaism because people see it as a proof you are intellectually active and pursuing education/enlightenment is something very noble. I guess that, in the end, it really boils down to feelings since you can't get any solid proofs. I have a very dual relationship with God; I believe my faith helps me in life even though I doubt him. I don't think I have fully dealt with his existence and I'm not sure I ever will, but I'm doing what makes me happy.

I always imagined that religious intellectuals are never truly religious. That means, they use their religion as a basis for their identity and mindset.
