The "standard" brazilian and portuguese accents are pretty distinct, but still completely mutually intelligible, even the galician language is fairly intelligible, especially in the written form.
Apart from the accent, Portugal's portuguese sounds more formal compared with the brazilian portuguese (more laid back), but I don't think it's enough to be classified as different languages.

Portugal is not even close to the state countries like Venezuela or other shitholes in South America are. Not even fucking close. The lifestyle of about 60-70% of our population is the lifestyle maybe 10 or 15% of Venezuela can carry out. They live in much worse conditions than you, me, or the vast majority of this country does.

No, it doesn't. There are some Brazilian accents/dialects that sound uncouth. Nothing in Portugal comes even close. Aside from those accents, I like the sound of Portuguese on both sides of the ocean.
