I used to think it was useless but now I believe it was a good deterrent to communism by showing that the US would intervene and kill a fuckton of people if a country considered flipping. Unfortunately the war spawned loose hippie/liberal morals. The music born from it makes it all worth it

Every war after WW2 was a mistake.
>>
well it wasn't really a war since the vietnamese weren't a threat to us
it was more like a really badly done intervention
>>
>>55439161
Should of listened to the Generals that wanted to use nukes and just nuked north Vietnam.
>>
I think we kicked some gook ass but lost a political war. Also, I think we should have killed all the hippies on the homefront via burning and bayonet.
>>
>>55439161
Here it is in a nutshell

>France couldn't hold onto their colony because they are limp dick faggots
>USA dumb enough to think Ho Chi Minh's relationship with Soviets was anything more than an exchange of weapons to fuel his revolutionary goals
>USA is kill
>Hippies mad
>Nixon says fuck you hippies, bombs Cambodia
>USA is kill
>USA leaves
>HO movies in
>Southern Vietnamese move to Little Saigon, Westminister California.
>Vietnam is a shit country to this day
>>
>>55439318
>implying ww1 and 2 weren't both mistakes
>>
>>55439490
Vietnam is a beautiful country tb h,
>>
It killed 60 000 Americans, most of them white and in the end achieved nothing..

Except ushering in the rise of the new left and the end of traditional America.

You could have created this perception with nothing but the Vietnam air campaign.
>>
>>55439602
Yeah it's not riddled with a corrupt police force or anything, right? Please... as soon as you get off the plane you need to bribe the cops to let you in. It smells terrible, and their cities are filthy. Smelly dirt bikes everywhere. Their women are whores, but that is a good thing by some.

Why are no armies as brutal as insurgents And as advanced as 1st world armies?

Like if The U.S. Army took on the combat mindset of ISIS. Killing everyone pretty much

>>55439161
Its one of my favorite wars. It was America's last "big" war against a technologically advanved enemy, and our last true air war, and the only war besides the Rhodesian bush war that featured heavy hellicopter use. Plus my uncle was a Ranger and gramps an intel officer. Theres also a ton of cool movies and books inspired by it. None of our wars since have been as dramatic.

No way the US would've won a war there right at Chinas doorstep.
South Vietnam would be overrun.

The Vietnamese had a lot of its civilians killed.

But on the bright side, their population still have intact penises, Unlike South Korea who now has +90% Circumcision rate, thanks to Uncle America.
>>
>>55440415
Shanty town reminds me of Megaton in Fallout 3.
>>
>>55440479
So their circ rates are even higher than Uncle America's?

Talk about good goys
>>
>>55440554
That's the sad part. The country that inflicted the epidemic on South Korea will probably cleanse the epidemic a couple hundred years faster than S.K itself.

that screenshot is pretty cool. I'd like to watch a movie/doc that actually focuses on the fighting, frontiers etc. instead of muh draft muh feelings etc

How America chunk out the shitty South government is astonish me. My dad live at Quy Nhon, a peaceful transition base of South Vietnam so not many stories but here:

>one morning dad (still a kid) wake up and thought it just like another day
>see bunch of men wear short pants and underwear all over the street
>those men are actually the troops station at Tay Nguyen
>troop said "NVA pass the 17 line and hitting really hard at Tay Nguyen, not Hue like they usually do"
>NVA officer hold loudspeaker said: "We have the same blood, same color so why we are fighting each other, brother?"
>"Just drop your weapons and go back to you family, we won't shoot you guys"
>and so troop and his comrade drop everything they have and fleeting back here
>one month later, the war ended in 1975
>>
>>55439455
lulz *political war* , it was a stalemate , and guess what stalemate means for occupying country , a nasty defeat , admit it gooks bested you fat obnoxious buffoons .
>>
>>55439938
No you have to understand the difference between humans and animals.

The Vietnamese are proper humans who can build up a society again after such a devastating war.
Today it's a country of peace and its citizens are okay.

Contrast that with the middle east. They are animals rather than humans, their countries just dissolve into chaos after a war.
>>
>>55439941

>technologically advanved enemy

The VC were nothing but sneaky armed farmers. The NVA has shit-tier Soviet armament.

How can you call this a technologically advanced enemy?

You know they shot down over 2,500 American aircraft?

Total aid from Communist countries was over 140 billion $ adjusting for inflation and included a shitload of surface to air missiles and even soviet fighter aircraft with pilots trained in USSR

people claiming they had nothing but old rifles and scrounged equipment dont know what the fuck they're talking about

Politics ruining a perfectly good military engagement. It's America's Rhodesia War. Win every battle but politics stabs you in the back and fucks everything up.
>>
Domino theory was correct, but the war was a terrible decision and the beginning of the fall of America. If we could have won then it would be a justified war.

It was the catalyst for the counterculture and the whole "fuck the system" movement and paved the way for progressives to push promiscuity, drugs, atheism, rebellious attitudes, homosexuality etc.

Through decades of progressive attacks, they ended up becoming "the system" and "the establishment" even if they still claim they're against the establishment despite being in control.
>>
>>55439318
>Every war after WW2 was a mistake.

literally propaganda.

vietnam was probably more necessary than ww2.

the US had no interest in going into WW2. There was no security interest. Great britain had a hard on for war with germany for no reason. who cares if germany invaded poland - they merely gave it to the soviets after the war.

vietnam had no security interest either, but it was part of a global barrer against the spread of communism.

what you'll notice is that every time the US moved against a communist theater - the press was absolutely against it. they were only for ww2 because why ? it was against nazis and allied with commies
