In the US, you have to pay your bills using one of the most powerful currencies in the world. You get paid wages in this currency. You buy goods with this currency.

There is no possible way Americans can get paid "competitive" wages when the dollar dominates the market. You would be getting paid pennies a day to live in a market that expects thousands of dollars a month.
