What actually happened is that a bunch of idealistic young leftists grew up and realized there's as much bullshit on that side of the spectrum. Academia is rotten to the core. Peer review isn't the assurance of quality you think it is. Entire disciplines are loaded to the brim with bullshit.
Here's an easy read on a metastudy of psychology, trying to reproduce the results - you know, the cornerstone of science.

There's a reason there's not more of these reproducibility studies. Nobody wants to fund them, nobody wants to show how riddled with holes their own disciplines are. The publishing side and peer review processes are supposed to be quality assurances and they're not. They're insanely corrupt.
Really, for your own sake stop being a retard and do what science tells you to do. NOT trust it blindly. To QUESTION science and the results. Be a fucking skeptic. Investigate.
