I think the unease people feel when someone speaks out against 'the west' is that they still associate 'the west' in their own image. (meaning the west is white and if the west dies then so do whites)
But you know people on the alt-right don't see it that way. The concept of a white identity is what will keep whites alive and thriving without having 'the west' to back it. The avg life span shortened by pm2.5 pollution is not that much compared to other major cities. Maybe 22 months lost in Chinese cities versus 7-12 months for European/American cities.
Pollution sucks but the resultant economic growth actually increases average lifespan. It's also being addressed but it's absolutely impossible to fix quickly.
