Mexican is someone from México.
Latino is someone from Latin America (everything from México to chile).
Hispanic is almost the same as latino but excluding brazil and some french speaking places and adding Spain (this is a linguistical term)

The "latin american" term refers only to people who live in the Americas and speak a latin language, spanish, and portuguese (mexicans, chileans, bolivians, argentinians, peruvians...)
Italians are from Europe, they are latin europeans, not latin americans.
