A little socialism is good, and even nessasary in large modern developed nations. A too much socialism or full socialism is full retard and hurts almost everyone.

Examples of good socialism include public emergency respondents, infrastructure building and maintenance, public schooling options, certain utilities in some cases, and basic worker rights.

>>55382285
I don't even know what you are talking about.
>>

>>

>public emergency respondents, infrastructure building and maintenance, public schooling options, certain utilities in some cases, and basic worker rights.

All of that was present well before Socialism was a twinkle in Marx's eye. In fact much of it was present in feudal societies.

What do you think about wealth redistribution specifically. You have said before that you think personal property rights are fundamental to personal liberty. The central core of socialism is disproportionately taxing the rich and somewhat rich (depriving them of their property) and giving it to the poor.
>>
>>55383856
Taxation is not the antithesis to personal property rights.

You work and play here, you pay us a cut. The more you make, the bigger the cut, because we're progressive like that and the capitalistic system we have is inherently regressive.

No one should starve to death when their are surplus resources that could feed them, and this goes for many other things like basic healthcare/emergency health, and to a limited extent shelter.
At the same time the way out of poverty is work and their should not be a "perverse incentive" to stay poor and dependent if they can help it.
So I guess what I am saying is I am not totally sure, but there is probably much room for improvement.

>>55382913
I don't think it is patronizing, they are words that I live by, and were inspired by MLK Jr. Himself.

>>55383104
No more the the average OP
>>
>>55384165
>Would you be against a flat tax (either a fixed amount for all or fixed percentage), and if so why?

Yes.

Because the capitalistic system we have is inherently regressive.

People start winning the markets, and they're no longer free. Without competition the system stagnates and there's no technological or managerial progress or innovation. They rest on their laurels and daddy's money.

And we've tested that out, it didn't work. The robber barons were a bunch of dicks and the unwashed masses suffered for it.
>>
>>55384374
What does a flat tax have to do with stagnation? In fact I would suggest that the benefits system produces it because it removes the incentive for the poor to better themselves.
>>
>>55384261
>I don't think it is patronizing, they are words that I live by, and were inspired by MLK Jr. Himself.

I say it because I find that liberals (possibly not including you) are the most racist people of all. They support such things as special benefits and programs for minorities, and top down programs to see that they receive equal presence in a variety of institutions (without merit other than being a minority) with the unsaid implication being that they are simply not good enough to get there on an equal playing field.

Try number three.

A flat tax... in an inherently regressive system... leads to the money going to the top and monopolies forming..... Those that dominate the market don't really want the market to change.

Hence why we split up Ma Bell.
> In fact I would suggest that the "benefits system"(?) produces [stagnation] because it removes the incentive for the poor to better themselves.

Uh huh, because poor people do all that innovation. No, startups, business competitors, smart people leveraging new technologies, and hungry corporations looking for a new edge are the ones that innovate. Hey, I'm all for compassion and whatnot. Many great people in my country have come from the bottom, and there at least used to be a variety of methods by which they could. The greatest being grammar schools. With hard work and effort you could get into a good school and from there many doors opened.
>>
>>55384906
>Well I guess anything you don't like is regressive

No man, none of that social- rights bullshit. It's a word. "Regressive" as in a tax imposed in such a manner that the tax rate decreases as the amount subject to taxation increases.

A progressive tax rate is one that PROGRESSIVELY gets bigger the more you make.

Jesus, don't get your panties in a twist.

>>
>>55385144
Let's try a 4th time!

The capitalistic system we have is inherently regressive. A progressive tax rate ( as opposed to a flat tax or a regressive tax rate) balances out the inherently regressive system.

I didn't call the flat tax regressive, but rather the economic system that it works in. But yeah, a lot of people call a flat tax "regressive". Nobody here or elsewhere really argues for an actual regressive tax system. That rate of change on the tax charts can go anywhere from negative numbers (regressive), zero (flat), to steep (progressive, like we had in the 50's to pay for the war). People call a flat tax regressive because it's more towards an actually regressive tax system. Yeah, annoying isn't it? The terminology always gets fucked up when you hit politics. Fucking spin-doctors. It really doesn't fucking help. Anyway.

The capitalistic system is inherently regressive because people with money have an easier time winning and making more money. Imagine you're playing Monopoly, the board game. Someone starts with $10,000, while 9 other players split $10,000 between them. The rich player will win nearly every time, despite "the poor group" having just as much money as him.

It's a rat race, and eventually one of the rats win it.
