Is it possible?

Is it possible or could humanity get to a stage where we could change our skeletons with robotic ones while maintaining our organs?
>>
>>55374040
>hip replacement surgery
we've been there for decades.
>>
>>55374105
Meant could a person replace most of their skeletal structure with a artificial one?
>>
>>55374283
I can agree with that possibility.

>>55374040
no. bone marrow is required to make red blood cells. a complete skeletal replacement would be fatal
>>
>>55374040
Only organ you need is the brain
>>
>>55376078
Actually all you need is the brain stem.
>>
>>55374040
no, see >>55375147
it's rather likely that it'd be possible to remove the complete body apart from the brain. means, the robotic body will be controlled by the brain, while the brain gets fed by the bot. however, there's enough problems that will have to be solved first, we're by far not able to reliably replace nerve endings with some electrical sensor
>>
>>55375147

It does considerably more than just red blood cells... Stem cells, lymphocytes, fat cells, osteoblasts, platelets
>>
>>55376078
>>55376210

>only organ you need is the brain

What's moving the accumulated fluid in and out, whats getting rid of all the waste products, what's oxygenating the blood, what's getting the blood in and out of the brain, what's maintaining ion concentrations?
>>
>>55374040
probably will find a way to transfer our brains onto computers as software in a virtual reality.
>>
>>55376254

Why are you fronting like you have any idea about neuro?

>nerve endings
>the most important part of separating the brain from the body is making sure it still feels pain
>>
>>55376078
Define "you".

You possibly don't even need the brain.
If you are nothing but the electrical signals running in your head, then it is not that far fetched to some day be able to upload your conciouness to a computer.

But you could continue the removal of the unneccesary.
Is that memory of you eating ice-cream when you were 6 really neccesary to still consider yourself as you?

Thinking about this, I don't really know how little of me would be left of me before I would stop calling myself that.
Shit's trippy yo.
>>
>>55376567
machines could do that.

Artificial pump/vat of oxygenated brain chemicals and synthetic replacements for other bodily processes needed for the brain.

All im saying is. So long as the brain is kept running. They will alive.

The brains the only organic part needed to keep a person.
>>
>>55376567

just ask the Russians.
>>
>>55376623
That's a nightmare.

See SOMA.

You won't live on. A copy of you will.

And it will believe it's you. It is you. But then it's truly not.
>>
>>55376631
The brain has no pain receptors
>>
>>55376733

If machines could do all that western medicine would be a lot more reliable about end of life care.
>>
Fuck it all I want are robot eyes so I can just rewatch shit I've seen over and over. Also, live eyewitness evidence if anyone every tries to blame me for shit or something.

And they wouldn't have wifi so no wireless hacking.
>>
>>55376834

Right, and the only time "nerve endings" are talked about in neuro is in the context of peripheral nociception
>>
>>55376889
The future is already here for you.

All you need to do is to remove one of your eyes.
Replace it with a camera fittet into a prostetic eye and you're good to go.
>>
>>55376836
True. It's not viable today.

But eventually. Artificial replacements for organic material can be created.

Things such as stomach digestive tracts can be eliminated since they are not vital and can be replaced with more direct energy
>>
You don't even need the brain, really. People can function on one lobe. So you basically replace one lobe with an artificial hardware brain, go through fuckloads of rehab so you're able to use it properly, then replace the other lobe with hardware in the same manner and repeat. Wee, you're now effectively immortal, at least until the inevitability of accident mortality gets you anyway (on a long enough timeline, you WILL die, whether you're a machine or not).

Good luck waiting for an effective artificial simulation of the human brain, however. We're probably 100 years from such technology.
>>
>>55377026

Shuttling out waste and circulation wouldn't be issues, id imagine, but I Dont have a clue how they'd go about generating more cells on a large enough scale synthetically
>>
>>55377060
EMPs would become a problem
>>
>>55377026
Indeed.

I'm liking this thread.

Also nano stem cell machines when?

Virtual conciousness when?

huh. Forgot link.

>Virtual conciousness when?

All the legal and moral issues that will arise from that...
>>
>>55377423
Why not? We could store ourselves on the new pioneer plaque!

Think of the children!
>>
>>55377126
You can EMP shield just about anything these days, its not that hard. If you're to the point you're running a hardware simulation of a human brain anyway, then chances are you're not going to be some thin little human critter, but probably a massive hulking machine, because why not. EMP shielding galore, then. Even the shitty Matrix writers understood that concept. When you remove the last constraints of biology... on biology... then your existence can effectively be a mechanical chimera of whatever you want.

This means both anime—and chillingly, furfags—would become real.
>>
>>55377484
If a conciouness is stored on a computer, it should be easy to copy-paste it.
And suddenly you've made an extra conciouness, which probably have some legal issues revolving around it.

And you have two of the same conciousness. One have existed for years, the other for mere seconds. Yet they still feel exactly the same.
Which one is real? Is both?
>>
>>55377683
That would fall under the same sphere as cloning would it not?

And if it were to fall under the same sphere as cloning then it'd have to have tough legal framework to maneuver in order to "copy paste". It wouldn't be as simple as you make it out.

Can you go to a lab and copy paste a human via cloning? Even if you had all the resources you needed? No, you'd probably go to prison for it.
>>
>>55377683
Arnold Schwarzenegger did a movie about this already.
tl;dr, the original will always take precedent, and if destroyed, the copy can take his life.
>>
bones will be one of the easier things to replace since they are more or less solid structures. brain and nerves will be the last.
>>
>>55378130
I don't remember if it's next year or 2017.

But anyways, doctors are doing the first ever head-transplant.

Some russian dude with some shitty bone-diseases is having a team of like 100 doctors moving his head to the place of another(pre-dead) decapitated body.
The dude is dying in a few year from his disease if he doesn't do anything anyway,,, so fuck it I guess.
Good luck mr Russia-cripple
>>
>>55374040
We need our bones to make our blood cells you fucking retard.

Biomedical Physics student here. The answer is soon. 5-20 years depending on the procedure/ replacement part you desire, based on what is going through R&D right now. Some of these procedures are already possible, but commercial distribution is a few years off. Start saving your shekels or making friends in the industry now, because it will be pricey. Especially if the world goes to hell first, which I think it will.

Terminator turtle:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBTppN3sqXg

Etc. Some of the shit I've seen in the lab is fantastic. Photo diagnostics are coming in leaps and bounds, biopsies will be increasingly redundant as 3d laser imaging allows detailed, deep tissue mapping ie, I scan a mole on your arm and determine if it's melanoma or not without having to cut it out first.

Though invulnerability is impossible, immortality will almost certainly be a reality within 200 years. Some of us alive today may be able to extend our lives to the threshold of this technology with the gradual advances coming from the field. Assuming again, the world doesn't go to hell for an extended period of time.

Is that like the one medical fact you know? Don't you think doctors and engineers in the future that OP is talking about might take that into consideration?
>>
>>55379848
>People will bitch about this
>And whine that it's 'not natural'
>And try to legislate against it because it makes them uncomfortable
>Meanwhile I'll be first in line to be free of this body that's trying its damndest to hold me back
That does make me wonder though, what do you think would happen first,
>Medical science advances to the point we can fix issues with brain chemistry and regrow limbs/organs
or
>Fuck it, stick the brain in a robot body
>>
>>55378391

if we can create respirocytes, we won't even need normal blood cells. we could sit at the bottom of a swimming pool for hours without needing to come up.
