It could cause voter fatigue but it helps maintain party unity; all the candidates appeared to get fair hearing in the primary process. The DNC under Wasserman-Schulz is having less than a third of the debates it had in 2008 to aid Clinto in securing the nomination, but this will likely cause anti-Hillary Democrats to stay home or even vote across party lines.
However, the primary reason Priebus is having so many RNC nomination debates is to bleed Trump financially. He has no big soft money/dark money donors and his true personal wealth is barely $1B.

I think that a lot of people sense that the Dems' dearth of debates represents a passive, possibly cowardly approach to the debate season. It also lends credence to the charge that Hillary is the nominee-in-waiting, because "it's her turn". Obviously, most honorable Americans don't tend to appreciate that notion.
