I still think it's quite a stretch to equate their totalitarian motives with those of batman's though. I haven't read batman in a long time, so I can't really comment on what the character might or might not have developed into 10 years.
I've heard he's gone full global with "batman inc" all over the fictional DC world. Now if that has been done the way I think it has, that would indeed have some fascistic echoes.
I've always viewed batman more as some sort of implausible conservative anarchist. He obviously idolizes the "old days" where he could go to the cinema without his parents getting BTFO. He's also unwilling of carrying his operations legitimately within the boundaries of the state, which he sees as redundant.
Heh. Maybe you're right and he has a small fascist streak in him, but on the other side, I still don't really see the character as pro-establishment. Even if it met his impossible standards.
