Actions speak louder than words, and the fact that America fought a civil war over it is a huge gesture. I don't agree with racism, I don't agree with subjugation, but 'slavery' is so vague, it's kind of a weasel word. The way slavery was rationalised was 'we give them shelter and food, they'd be fucked without it'. Since the end of slavery, since the end of Jim Crowe laws, hell, even since the enforcement of positive discrimination there have been riots, ending with blacks in prison which can still be construed as another form of slavery.
So, in 100 years, should people be apologising for self-preservation?
