Basically, some racial awareness group sent everyone at the university an e-mail telling students to be "mindful" of their Halloween costume. While in theory that seems like a reasonable demand, it really just amounted this racial awareness group policing what was and wasn't acceptable.
Then the University headmaster responded to the e-mail by saying "I think people should be mindful, but I don't think you should be policing them. If someone wears something offensive, tell them or ignore it".
The racial awareness group then decided that this civil and sensible response was the exact same thing as saying "I fucking hate niggers and eat babies and throw legos everywhere so people step on them". So they made a big deal out of everything, the Uni's football team decided to stop playing, and some people are on hunger strikes. Seems to have reached a critical mass of sorts. It's the exact definition of an overreaction.

It's astonishing to think that every black non-athlete at that school (and almost every other university) are only there because they were granted a seat over a vastly more deserving Asian student. Asians were literally used as slave labor to build the railroads, and they overcame and eventually flourished. They come to this country not speaking English, and work their asses off, pushing their kids to excel above all others, without ever getting a handout or preferential treatment, and their kids are rewarded by losing out to Tyquan and Watermelondrea for seats at prestigious schools.
