Putin is not totally bad, but there are literally millions of illegals in Russia and many more swarming in. And why is he holding on to republics that don't even seem remotely Russian?
He qualifies as a Neo Con.

>He qualifies as a Neo Con.
I can see some vague similarities, but I think there's something a little more deeper to Putin:

As a conservative I respect his leadership. He made the liberal welfare state work by doing all the things liberals refuse to do like harsh drug laws, high standards in education and being non politically correct. If you are going to have massive police/welfare state at least do it right and he did.

My friends and I once hated all he stood for during our edgy teenage phase. I still don't agree with some of his ideas, but I can understand them.
For instance, he locked up suspected communists (including who amounted to be his right-hand man) without trial in the 60s despite British intelligence not finding dirt on these people. Then it occurred to me I'd rather this administration than the chauvinistically Chinese government the 'progressive left' stood for. Hell, we'd be mired in Malaysian degeneracy or worse because the Chinese proletariat majority would have voted for them.

LKY was a machiavellian, so he knew as long as the deeds he did were good and justified the means, the methods could be whatever it takes.
Some part of "The prince" mentions how one should crush strong parties to eliminate opposition, this would be the case here
you should read the prince yourself, its a realistic way of dealing with people
>>55352255
>its a realistic way of dealing with people
It actually isn't
>>55352568
Funny this coming from a Russian.

Can /pol/ tell me what a Neo con is? I see it thrown around a lot. Is it just a term for new conservatives who are bipartisan?

The Prince is a meme book.
People don't employ situational ethics after reading about it in a book and actually planning it out, it would cease to be situational.
Context-based experiense is king, and even then the result will still vary.
>>55352722
Basically, it evolved from Trotskyites back in the 60s. It's sort of like normal conservatism but included in it is the strage Trotskyite policy of aggressive alleviation of perceived 'suffering' via ideological imperialism

>>55352722
Term for the conservative movement that came out of the Reagan era which synthesized the neo-liberal economic policies of the Reagan administrations with the social views of the religious right and the hawkish foreign policy of anti-communist movements.
>>55352907
>The Prince is a meme book
That's correct, Machevelli most likley wrote it as some sort of satire.
The basic precepts of realism are extremely beneficial, but Machiavellism is just stupid.
We have no friends, only interests.
>>55352983
> neo-liberal economic policies... with the social views of the religious right and the hawkish foreign policy
Then the guys is correct, Putin is a neo-con
>>55353088
People who share our interests are our friends. People who oppose your interests are your enemies. How hard is that to understand?
>>55353088
This. I see the term bandied around LKY very often (mostly by libtard journalists), but he is clearly not Machiavellian in the strictest sense. Merely a realist that was willing to go to extraordinary means to secure greater stability.
>inb4 liberals scream about freedumbs over security
>>55353247
well, this implies being Machiavellian in bad
i mean who actually remembers him for his bad deeds like "For instance, he locked up suspected communists (including who amounted to be his right-hand man) without trial in the 60s despite British intelligence not finding dirt on these people" instead of the usual yknow "founding father of singapore changed the place from a fishing villiage ect etc"
if anything it proves the end result trumps the methods used
>>55352983

>>55353352
>Communists either openly support revolution or subvert the culture with liberal values
>not killing the viper before he can bite you
Guys. This isn't complicated.
>>55353460
people will still see it as inhumane desu
he also got one thing the prince mentioned right: He managed to be somehow both loved and feared, although perhaps more of the fear at times depending on who you were
>>55353352
>well, this implies being Machiavellian in bad
being Machiavellian isn't bad, it's fucking retarded.
>if anything it proves the end result trumps the methods used
Memeiavelli didn't invent this concept, it has already been refferred to by other, more suitable terms ITT.

>>55353767
shame that he crashed the economy so badly.
If hadn't completely disregarded economics he might have made Islamic nationalism seem like a viable model.

Those who aren't foolish enough to deify and canonize him, for one. He (and his brilliant first-gen team, I must add) were the architects of modern Singapore but it must be stressed that it came at huge expense with some missteps along the way like Operation Spectrum (much, much more questionable benefit than Coldstore).
>>55353585
This. The entire school of thought is a caricature of some very basic ideas. To my knowledge, LKY never went on record professing himself as a student of Machiavelli except for the basic tenets of realist, pragmatic thinking and strong governance.
>B-b-b-but he done oppressed opposition!
>m-muh democracy
>e-e-e-empire was racist!

The King of Kings. The West & Arabs feared what a united Africa could do and killed Colonel Qaddafi for it. He was an anti-imperialist who fought for the rights of Africa and secular conservative values.
>>55355567
Yeah be talked big and I read the economy grew under his rule but then he became a concubine obsessed cokehead and let his country go to shit.
>>55355696
The western media said Gaddafi had ''sex slaves'' but in reality they were just his female bodyguards. Women under Gaddafi could serve in the military and weren't oppressed by religious law. He was a secular leader and Islamism was forbidden in Libya (punishable by prison/death). Also, it's not like women today are any better off now that Libya is ruled by Islamists/Jihadists. They can't serve in the military and have to be covered up. Also before the western attack on Libya, the UN was praising Libya for how much better the standard of living was going up.
The 2011 Libyan "civil war" was just a terrorist uprising sponsored by Qatar, the French, the British, the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
