Cannabis is generally just not good for mental stability.
As with any hallucinegenic drug it weakens the mind if you abuse it over time.
It will also make you mentally slower and decrease your reaction time.
A smaller but still signfiicant subset of people will develop serious mental issues when smoking it if not at first then over time.
Anyone who thinks a hallucinegenic drug is "safe" or can be abused by anyone is fooling themselves.
An occasional toke for many can be fine but most consistent stoners will develop issues from it or will certainly have their lives simplified and their quality of life lowered even if they don't notice it (you often can't realize the huge changes it has on you until you've quit for a few days).

I am a college graduate who has done my own research on cannabis and was close friends with a a pharmacist.
I am not a chemistry major nor a pharmacist but very few people are more qualafied to speak about the risks of the drug then I am.
I have seen both the good and bad of the drug.
My final opinion is that for most people consistent abuse of the drug will harm them.
Those I know who have potentially benefited from the drug only used it sparingly and certainly no more then once a week etc...

Something to look out for, but not the worst thing in the world. As for the rest of us, it's not that hard to use responsibly.
