it all depends on if you want to do multiplication or division first depending on that you can get one of two answers. the problem itself is wrong, there should be another set of brackets somewhere in the problem in order to solve for one definite answer i.e. 20/[5(2*2)] or (20/5)(2*2)

This has nothing to do with Common Core. In college, we learn that PEMDAS is flawed, because it does not take the L -> R aspect into account.
