Does anyone else think Google has gotten a little too big for its Orwellian britches?

>Tracking everything you do, even when you're not signed in to their data mining account
>Extracts personal information like your real name and phone number from various things you do online without your consent, regardless of what device you're using
>Takes over Youtube and turns it into a giant nanny state shithole
>Talks about building it's own private city-state

I think this fucker needs knocked down a peg.
>>

>>
>>55293113
I haven't used google in so long that its kind of staggering.

It's actually remarkably easy to opt out of their shit.

>Go get a tutanota or protonmail account
>Search with StartPage or Duck Duck Go.
>Stop wasting time on youtube.

And you're done.
>>
>>55293113
I'd rather have Google handling my shit than the government.
>Better security
>Easier personal access
>FREE
>Easy to use
>Widely available

It's a free-market superstar.
>>
This has been the case for ages now m8, if you use pretty much any popular normie site or app you're handing over your privacy, and more and more Google will be involved to some extent. Even just using a smartphone means being tracked, there's no escape if you want to communicate with your own generation any more. Most kids don't give a fug, Google can get away with practically anything and successfully call it 'convenience'.
>>
>>55293411

>>
>>55293204
What the hell are you talking about, you fucking moron? And yes, Google has gotten much too big and there's a seriously negative trend of data mining coming from every large tech company now.

>>55293398
And do you have a mobile phone? If you do you likely either are getting data mined either by Google through Android or by Apple, another company that's way too big to be good for anyone.

>>55293411
That's because you're a fucking idiot. And you'll learn the bloody, deadly err of your ways within a few short decades. It's not enough that multinational corporations already control the bloodsoaked warmongering of this country, it has to hit you personally before you give a shit. Well you'll get your wish soon I feel.

>>55293452
You're obviously very young. It really did not used to be this way even 15 years ago. And it's gotten severely worse every year.
>>
Well it ISN'T fair what they're doing, Google should only be a simple search engine.

Zuckerberg is fucking Facebook up by adding more apps that make all of your business known to everyone, even without your knowledge. It's just that these people haven't been challenged yet and they think they can data farm everyone without the finger being pointed at them.
>>
>>55293452
I've never owned a smart phone. It wasn't about the privacy (at first). It was that the phones were a lot more expensive, the plans were a lot more expensive, the battery life sucked, and there wasn't really anything that I wanted badly enough to justify the pricing.

In hindsight, I'm glad that I stuck with my dumbphone.

15 bucks per month for 6 hours of talk, unlimited text, and 50mb of data (for pic messaging).

Hell, my "dumbphone" can even play youtube videos in its web browser (Opera Mini).

Nope.

For such a small company they somehow move at a glacial pace, even slower than the lumbering giant MS.

They perpetually keep everything in beta and kill it promptly before being able to monetize any of it.

Google is run by retards.

>>
>>55293512
Fair enough, I'm 20 and only started using a smartphone and social media when I started uni out of necessity. From what I can tell it's always been kinda shit, but I can certainly see it getting much worse with shit like more and more sites requiring a google account.
>>
>>55293851
What job do you have that necessitates a smart phone?

I'm not disbelieving, but I AM curious.
>>
What's starting to piss me off is you can't even spend some downtime from the constant stress these greedy capitalist bastards cause every day of your life playing a simple video game without them tracking your location, real name, phone number, etc, etc, etc. None of that shit is their fucking business. People who say they're afraid of the government who doesn't typically even bother with any of that shit and has to go through six forms in triplicate to get basic information about someone without high priority but trust multinational corporations to track their every move like a fucking ant in an antfarm are fucking retards. Literally useful idiots.

I mean hell, even these fucking captchas exist so one tech company or another can read the information all around it in real time to data mine everything and everyone.

>>55293851
You know how you used to watch a youtube video? You visited the site and watched the video. Now you have to install an adblocker just to get past the adds and sign into your Big Brother account to remove the damned annotations on everything. To play a video game you used to pop the cartridge/disk/whatever in and fucking play. Maybe you'd have to use a key to make sure you bought the game. Now you have to write a fucking autobiography and create an account that tracks you everywhere you go and the games mostly suck anyway.

These fucking idiots are both destroying technology and creating a dangerous environment for people to live without constant spying and intrusion of privacy.

As far as the video game stuff goes, I have a PS3 and a Wii, and I have no idea what you're talking about. >>
>>55294147
I think it's the best dumb phone on the market, personally. I even purchased the charging cradle, so I won't wear out the charging port water seal as quickly. When my phone bites the dust, I'll just buy another one on ebay for 60 bucks.

Gotta make sure you turn off 3G, though. Drains the battery much quicker. In case you don't know, press ##8378 (or ##TEST), then press talk, then click on "Force Mode," and click "Cell Only."

You'll still get picture messages, it just takes a little longer to download.

Here's an example. Blizzard requires constant internet connection to play StarCraft II - even NON-multiplayer. You literally can't even play the game you bought and supposedly own, without an umbilicus to the corporation that sold it to you. NONE of the fans wanted it, but that of course didn't stop them one bit. And that's just one example. This is becoming the new trend. Pay forever with constant data-mining.

Ah. I don't play PC games, so I guess that's where you're losing me. I wouldn't buy any game that requires "always online."

Even Journey, which is crippled if you don't have an online connection (it's meant to have a single partner accompanying you), is still playable without a connection.

>We shouldn't be having to go through this to not have capitalist peeping toms spying on every detail of our everyday lives.

Xbox is the same way, which shouldn't come as a surprise since it's Microsoft. The last time I bothered with Xbox they were literally asking for THREE DIFFERENT EMAILS or two emails and a phone number to verify your account. You could skip it by leaving and returning, but it got really ridiculous and you still had to give them at least two emails.

>>55294664
>It sounds like an absolute clusterfuck now
Not only is it a complete clusterfuck now, but most games aren't even worth fucking pirating anymore they suck so bad. There's barely any creativity or originality in any game now. They're formulaic as fuck. Everything has been reduced to a money-making equation at this point, including people and that last part is what really pisses me off. Google has no fucking right to know my name, my location, my age or any other information and track me every second of my life I accidentally use one of their invasive programs.

>>55294678
Of course they just said fuck you. That's the standard response from multinationals at this point. They're rich as fuck and as long as people keep paying for their shit and they can buy politicians they're gonna do whatever the hell they want. Google CAN NOT be permitted to build a city state under ANY circumstances.

Microsoft destroys everything they influence. The best thing you can do is leave them to rot, even if it means you have to go without something that they provide that you like. Install a linux flavor that you like (or even OSX, for all I care), never touch an Xbox controller again on principle, and steer clear of their phones.

Linux Mint, Nintendo/Sony for game systems, a dumb phone, and DDG for a search engine.

Microsoft will never make a fucking dime off me again.

And thank fuck that Steam is actually trying to break free from MS with their steam box.

>>55295310
I don't know how they're still in business. And yet after all these decades the their only competitor for an OS is Apple? As if nobody else can write code for an OS with a GUI? Something's seriously fucked about that.

>The best thing you can do is leave them to rot
You can't though. Unless you want to become a total luddite, there's no escape. All tech companies data mine now. All major emails demand your cell phone number now. It's not the individual companies that are the problem. It's the predatory system. And that needs to end.

>And thank fuck that Steam is actually trying to break free from MS with their steam box.
You watch. Steam will become every bit as corrupt, greedy and power hungry as all the other multinationals named so far. It's inevitable. It's the inexorable march of capitalism.

>Not tutanota. I'm glad I went with them.
Never heard of them. Yahoo, Gmail and Microsoft all do.

>No arguments from me, but the only way to do it is to vote with your wallet.
No, it isn't. That's a lie. This system knows its strengths and it's greatest strength is to use the easily brainwashed masses to keep it alive forever and use them as a weapon to prevent their defeat. The only real solution is the total collapse of this shit society and the building of a new, better one entirely from scratch that LOCKS OUT the evil monsters that ruined this world and has mechanisms in place to forever prevent sociopaths from EVER gaining power ever again.

>And that might mean choosing to go without. I don't have a problem with that.
Like I said it doesn't matter if you go or I go without, because there will still be HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS who WILL NOT. Who WILL NOT go without their entertainment and vices, who do not care about the future for their species, who are glad to allow the rich and the evil to destroy the biosphere and fuck society up until its unfit for any decent person. This element of subhuman garbage has to be removed if progress is ever to be made. You can't just kill a multinational, because another will rise to replace it. You can't just not go see a movie based on an existing franchise wherein they make crucial characters niggers, because half a million other plebs will just go in your place.

>Oh, I'm counting on it. But if MS would just fucking die, then new competition could actually work their way in.

>Never heard of them [tutanota]
Check them out. Super focused on keeping your shit private. Open source and free, too. That said, if you lose/forget your password, wave good bye to everything. They don't keep your password on record.

>This system knows its strengths and it's greatest strength is to use the easily brainwashed masses to keep it alive forever and use them as a weapon to prevent their defeat.
That may be. But the solution isn't to dictate how people should live their lives. The solution is to operate within the system in such a way that you are comfortable with it. People have the right to opt into heinous bullshit at the moment, just like they have the right to opt into smoking cigarettes. It's their choice. That said, I'm more comfortable never opting in than giving up my privacy.

If MS crumbles away, Steam will not be as powerful as MS instantly. This will allow all sorts of new OS's to crop up.
>>
>>55296323
>No one is sitting there, going through hundreds of millions' users search history or personal details.

Obviously not. Nobody says this. What we believe is that Google keep all your data, and the government collects your metadata.

That means they effectively have your activity log. When you went on /pol/, when you logged into Steam, when you went on the RT website.

This is much more frightening than simply knowing what porn we look at, because it shows what their intent is.

But I'm willing to wager there's regular posters on /pol/ who are being watched in this way by whatever government represents them.
>>

There's no law restricting you from shit posting on the internet, especially outside the US.

People need to remember how insignificant we are online and outside of it. We aren't CEOs, we aren't scientists or politicians. We're plain citizens who browse the internet.

I don't care if they collect data on me, they can't use it against me since I will never become as important as I mentioned above.
>>
>>55296276
That's just a part of a greater issue though. The "no more anonymous" trend that the rich have been pushing the fuck out of. A lot of powerful assholes have been pushing for years now to make internet anonymity impossible. This is one of the earlier steps.

>>55296299
That's brainwash talk, moron. There is nothing positive about competition. That's just what the richfuck sociopaths want you to say. Don't give me that libertarian bullshit. Libertarianism is a cult for exactly the sort of sociopaths who don't belong in decent society who created this mess. There hasn't been a businessman yet who's willingly given away power because he "believed in competition".

>>55296323
They don't have to. But it's certainly all logged and culled for information they consider important. Why am I even responding to a kike? Your monstrous, abomination of a people is partially responsible for this shit.

>But the solution isn't to dictate how people should live their lives.
Yes, it is actually. Authoritarian systems are the best. They just need to be led by the right people. People with actual fucking morals who don't view their species as a resource to fatten their coffers. The masses are fucking morons and should never have ANY power.

>The solution is to operate within the system
You're certainly dumber than I first gave you credit for if you actually believe this. You can't play the rules of a rigged game and win.

>It's their choice
Why should it be? Why should cigarettes be allowed? Because muh freedumb? That's a terrible reason for anything. Freedom of speech? Sure, within reason (lying, for example should be illegal). Freedom of religion? Great, again, within reason (religions that proclaim war on all other religions like the jewish ones should be outlawed). But freedom to be an asshole, destroy your health and endanger others? FUCK NO. That is nothing but social cancer and people who believe that absolute freedom is the highest good are deranged and stupid.
>>
>>55296533
I'm glad you don't care, but that's like saying that you don't care if the government takes guns away from the population because you aren't ever going to hunt, and you don't see a point in time where the government will become corrupt.

You see the problem with this, right? I would think a Jew, of all people, would understand the importance of your right to privacy, what with Germany and your six gorrilian.
>>
>>55296533

>Authoritarian systems are the best.
Matter of personal preference there, amigo. I'll take my freedom, and all the responsibility that comes with it, as the Philosopher King model has NEVER worked in practice.

>You're certainly dumber than I first gave you credit for if you actually believe this. You can't play the rules of a rigged game and win.
You most certainly can when the game is equally rigged against everybody, not just you. Don't get me wrong, I'm libertarian, and like the idea of a capitalist anarchy, but I know that this would lead to just as many problems as the other extreme, given enough time. So I look at the rules, and manipulate them to my benefit as best as I can, all the while voting for there to be fewer and fewer rules.

>Why should it be? Why should cigarettes be allowed?
Because the alternative to giving someone freedom is to take it away. This means you also need to take responsibility away from the people, and give it to the over seers, AND have the people be ok with both, or risk subversion.
>>
>>55296772
Its time is coming (though not necessarily due to firearms). Up to this point, the corruption has been doing its citizens a lot of good, and been kept under wraps. But all its secrets are seeing the light of day, and even its people are becoming increasingly disenfranchised with the US government. This is why Trump and Bernie is doing so well. I'm not saying Trump or Bernie is the solution; I can't tell the future. I AM saying they are a symptom of the problem, just like the body increases white blood cells when there is an infection. Whether those white blood cells do any good really depends on dumb luck. But people see the government as an infection, and hope that Trump or Bernie is what they need.

No, it's really not. It's objectively quantifiable. Democractic systems are AIDS and lead to immense corruption and degeneracy because THEY ARE PROGRAMMED TO. That's literally their proper functioning parameters.

Authoritarian systems are extreme. They're either extremely good or extremely bad. But nothing beats a good authoritarian system. Nothing.

>I'll take my freedom, and all the responsibility that comes with it, as the Philosopher King model has NEVER worked in practice.
Yeah, that's because we abandoned eugenics and allowed the retarded and evil to take total control of society. Now they're the dominant strain of humanity. >Who's to say it will ever stop?
Anybody who looks at the government's finances.

>Democractic systems are AIDS
Only if social welfare is an option. Any place without it thrives. If there were a constitutional law forbidding it, you would be surprised at how well the country would do. The US, for example, had the number of people living in poverty drop by 1% per year like clockwork before welfare was implemented. And a dictatorship/monarchy is only as good as the leader is. Get a good leader who is smart enough to surround himself with wise, intelligent, charismatic people, and you do alright. But all that can change the second that leader dies and a new leader comes into power.

This is why it is better for the population to be self-reliant. Welfare defeats self-reliance. It is welfare, not democracy, which will topple any democratic society.

>Yeah, that's because we abandoned eugenics and allowed the retarded and evil to take total control of society. Now they're the dominant strain of humanity.
I call it welfare, but whatever.

I doubt it, but I don't care beyond my own lifetime. And I'm reliant enough on myself and the people I choose to keep close that I'm not worried about anything that may come. Push comes to shove, there's always the Colt Retirement package.

>You're too stupid to read anymore drivel from.
That's fine. Unlike you, I believe you should have the freedom to do what you want, so long as you take responsibility for your choices, and all the effects that come from them, both foreseen and unforeseen.

Have a good night.

>Yeah and who enforces those laws?
>And who owns the people doing the enforcing?

You voted them in, genius.

You tell me.
>>
>>55297523
I didn't vote for shit.
>>
>>55297539
Your people voted for them.

Don't blame the system because Americans are too retarded to vote in sensible people.

does this have a camera (&what's its memory)?how's the battery life?

if not this phone.. are there any dumb phones that fit this criteria?
>>
>>55297667
There's a model with a camera, and one without it.

When I turn off 3G (I explained how too earlier), my phone lasts around 5 days before hitting 1/4 power (which is when I recharge it).

Comes with 259MB internal memory, although there is an SD card slot on the side of the phone which allows up to 32GB, I believe. Not sure, as I only have 4GB put in.

No music player, but you can email yourself music and set it as ring tones wicked easily, or, if you stick with Verizon, just use the Vcast ringtones shop thing.

Steam is doing the exact same thing, it all started with steam guard, they just wanted an email to protect your steam account which you most likely used a credit card on. now they want your phone number and more passwords to tie you in deeper and deeper...and their client won't stop harassing you, infact between steam and windows 10 i get nagged to update/give up info 4-5+ times a day by my personal p.c which never had these issues only 3-4 months ago. infuriating.

thanks, I started using smart phones pretty late (about 2 years ago) and I'm ready to be done with them.

I think I might just need to buy a new camera if I go this route.

btw, I love Hong Kong, I used to live in Shenzhen. =]
>>
>>55297887
I don't live in Hong Kong, though I am debating moving there.

Oh, don't know if you care (I don't), but the Casio Ravine 2 is a global phone, as well there's a place for a sim card under the battery).

As a side note, how prevalent is English in Hong Kong?
>>
>>55297930
If you have any questions about the area, feel free to ask.
>>
>>55298064
Extremely.

HKers preference
1. Canto (treat you as family)
2. English (treat you average)
3. Mandarin ( :[ )
>>
>>55298064
Already have. How prevalent is English in Hong Kong? I'm a Power Plant Operator and an Electrician. But if I'm gonna try to get a job out there, I need to know if I need to know Cantonese.

I'm not gonna be a dick who moves some place where he needs to know a different language, and expects the population to bend over backwards for him.

Also, what's the cost of living like out there? Like a 1 bedroom?

Thanks.

No problem. I think you'd do great with the attitude you have now. Also, if you wear a green hat it means your a kek.
>>
>>55298160
Your biggest expense will definitely be rent. It goes from about 1.2kUSD(outside city center) to 2kUSD+(city center) per month.

Food's pretty easy to find at any price point.
>>
>>55298439
Jesus, that's high rent. My rent here is 400/month.

Hope my job pay increases if I head out there. Don't expect you to know how much a power plant operator makes in HK, though. I'll have to research that myself.

I have a 1 bedroom duplex. Attached garage, central heat/air, and a storage shed in the back yard. 400 bucks, no joke.
>>
>>55298808
I'm good. Never used reddit, don't plan to start now.

Thanks for the info, though.

>What we believe is that Google keep all your data, and the government collects your metadata.

you're far behind there feller - the us gov collects all data, not just meta - it vacuums everything including all chat and videochat - pics and vids - all of it son -

It has slipped through in numerous cases how it can all be acquired for court if need be - the FBI and other leo agencies bragging it up

that includes ALL telephone conversations - mobile and land line
