You act like the electoral college is some sinister thing.
People don't vote for President directly, and they don't even count the popular vote that carefully. Every state holds its own individual election, and the states elect the President.
So yeah, if you live in a state where you're in the minority, then there's really not any point of voting. You could try and change how your state sends delegates, by letting it split them to allow the minority more representation, but good luck.
If it seems unfair, like the President doesn't really represent you, then yeah. It is. That's why it's a shitty idea to have a powerful federal government.

In a way, gerrymandering makes sense. When an area sends a representative to Congress, it might as well be someone who matches the politics of 95% of the people he represents rather than 51%, but I see your point.
I really don't think the Feds should have much power at all, though. Using schools as an example, they're funded by your taxes. Personally, I'd rather see that money go to the state, and we could decide, as a state, how we think children should be educated. Instead, the federal government takes our money, and won't give it back unless our schools play by their rules.
