Well I live in an area with relatively nice weather (south/central Texas) but when I drive around in areas with snow the roads are god awful. I guess it's because the snow/road salts/heavy trucks fuck them up? there is literally no permanent road from our norther most provincial capital (edmonton) to yellowknife(the capital of the northwest territory) most of the year yellowknife is unexcessable by vehicle unless you go through British Columbia, u have to travel practicaliy to Alaska first. Canada needs 100% more roads, our northern most communities are isolated and are forced to pay out of control prices for every commodity.

I'll get familiar with seaplanes and boats. But theoretically it makes morse sense for you to travel by road. Still, I don't know why you'd want a tourist pipeline to those areas. Part of the lower 48's obsession with Alaska is the rough and unconventional methods that are required to get there. I doubt the tourist dollars would be the same if a nice highway was built to lead the way.
