Like 40-27.85=?
I first count the 40-10 bringing the equation to 30-27.85. Remembering the 10.

Then 27.85+2=29.85. Remembering 2 and adding it to 10 thus 12

Lastly 30-29.85=0.15. Adding that 0.15 to 12 making it 12.15

I've noticed I use it lot in when buying groceries and stuff.
