Be glad it isn't. The chicken here is very low quality and sometimes has a shitty (literally tastes like barnyard) flavor. Watch the documentary "The trouble with chicken" if you want to see what I mean.

I've basically become a vegetarian, not for faggy moral reasons, but because decent quality meat is priced outside my budget now. It's a rare treat, not a weekly thing for me.

Most chicken here is processed garbage unless you get it fresh from the store. They take a bunch of chicken assholes and mold it into things that resemble breasts and sell it as such.
>>
OP you have to buy rice, potatoes, mixed frozen vegetables, and raw beans. All of that is much cheaper and will provide a lot more nutrition than canned beans and pasta.

Also stock up on eggs. Probably like $3 for a dozen. Two of those a day and you're staying well under budget.

Keep your spice cabinet well stocked, it's the difference between eating the same bland shit day after day and getting some decent flavor going.

>>
>>55225754
Bagged salads because they're easier to bring with work. Those kits come with some dressing + cheese + croutons, you just pour it in the bag and shake it.

The burgers are salmon burgers, I don't really know how to perform the magic burger process on Salmon, so I just buy them pre-made.

For you Europeans, in American supermarkets we can bring any food item to the butcher and they can turn it into burgers for us.
>>
>>55225413

Those are some really great meat prices. On sale the chicken alone would be 40 pounds.

The US has a crazy coupon culture. I love it because I'm smart enough to do arithmetic, but most people struggle.

This is where a lot of the problems for poor people come in. Prices fluctuate like crazy when things go on sale and people are retarded.
>>
You can literally live only on beans and potatoes

Anyways, people really should invest in a good crok pot and a good jumbo sized rice cooker

Rice is cheap in 100 lb bags, and there are more ways of flavoring it than there are days in a year

At one point in my life, I had to rent a cheap two bedroom apartment and find a roommate to split the rent. We also agreed not to buy cable and to just spend a bit more on internet service. All that was left was food and transportation (I took the bus). I was making $1000 a month from a part time job and had about $400 after paying for rent, food, internet and transportation. Basically I had $400 a month that I could spend whatever I want while only working 4 hours a day. Felt good. Liberals think this is tough to do?

After I started my own greenhouse (and had the police show up at my house with a search warrant thinking I had a marijuana operation going on) the cost of food in my house is minimal. making your own pasta is better. it's fast and costs about the same, you just need eggs.
>>
>>55230770
Each can of beans is 385 calories, 4 cans makes 1540 calories.

8 bananas = 840 calories.

Each can of pasta sauce is 350 calories, 700 total.

1 large eggplant is about 120 calories, 5 of them would be 600.

6 skin-on chicken thighs @ 357 calories each = 2135 calories.

~12 cups of oatmeal = 3600 calories.

1 qt Dannon light and fit Greek yogurt (vanilla) = 520 calories

3 packs of barilla whole grain spaghetti = 1260 calories.

Total = 9415 + 520 = 9935 + 1260 = 11200 calories. Assuming he has snacks and such throughout the week, he can hit 14000 easily

I ate for about $6-7 today.

Breakfast (lasts a week):
>cereal, $2/box
>2% fat milk, $1.50/liter

2 meals, Lunch and Dinner:
>14 oz hillshire polska kielbasa, $3
>5.7 oz packet of knorr brocolli rice, $1
>15 oz can of ranch style beans, $0.80

Then I had some lowfat mountain high yogurt for desert ($3) but that lasts for a few days like milk and cereal.

What are some good/inexpensive meals to prepare for my bf and I?
I'm a pretty decent cook, I think. I cook all of our meals but sometimes I think it gets a bit expensive.

I just made some Mapo Tofu a few hours ago. It's really good but for the price I think I can make a whole lot more.

After living off of ramen for the past 7 years due to not wanting to leave my house, I finally bought some vegetables to keep my body from rotting. That shit was incredibly expensive. Two servings of salad is like $5 and if you want to have toppings so you don't implode from the blandness, that shit is even more expensive.

I don't understand why it's cheaper to eat unhealthy foods and fatty meat. Salad should be the cheapest, it's just fucking leaves and shit.

Eggs used to be less than 2 dolalrs for a dozen. Don't buy eggs. Don't buy turkey. that shits expensive from the massive AI in the Midwest.

Instead, buy a head of cabbage, an onion, chicken stock (or make your own using a leg quarter or two and then use the meat from the legs, thighs, and back), some cheap sausage, two tomatoes, and rice/noodles. Make it all into a soup, spicy or savory (add a potato), whatever you want. There you go. You're eating soup twice a day for at least 5 days for less than 15 dollars

Also don't forget to buy grains in bulk if possible from either a local market (preferably not costco, and very preferably not walmart), if you don't have such a thing check out sites like these:

http://www.nutsinbulk.com/chia-seeds-1-pound-bag.html?productid=chia-seeds-1-pound-bag

I throw in chia seeds in all my smoothies and yogurt just to get that boost of protein and omega 3. Lasts forever.

The chia seeds you see for sale sometimes are very light bags with not that many, and aren't cost effective.

Eating some salad is good.
For ruffage and fiber.

Though I just eat flax seeds for the same effect but an occasional salad is good in my book.
Also a nice ceaser salad with chicken is pretty tasty honestly and can make a nice healthy meal especially before bed.

Beetroot is very underrated veggie. Use it like you would use potatoes.
Here´s cheap and tasty, I guess salad recipe I found out.
>get like 8 beetroots (will last you for a while)
>boil them till they are soft and peel them
>peel some red onions as much as you like and cut them into rings
>cut some feta if you like it
>put the stuff in a bowl
>make a simple sauce for it: half a desilitre of olive oil, some pepper and othe spices if you want, two teaspoons of mustard, two teaspoons of honey add some apple vinegar to give it bit of acidness, mix the stuff together and pour it on the salad.
>put lid on the bowl, shake it well and put it in the fridge for at least hour.

And learn how to eat by talking to poor bodybuilders. Eggs are cheap protein. 1 pound pasta is 1 dollar and is 1600 calories, (~350 carbs, ~50 protein, ~14 fat)

Shit like that can be tasty with a jar of $1.50 ragu. Tasty meal for 2 days and costs a little over a dollar each time loaded with calories out the ass.

Look up "frank wrath mcgrath food for week" and watch how he eats like a straight bodybuilder on $50 a week.
