On top of this, you also have to reimburse the pharmaceutical company for the expenses which were required to bring that drug to market in the first place. In the United States, where there are extremely tight and rigorous drug regulations, it often costs tens of millions if not billions to put a drug through all the studies and clinical trials required to earn FDA certification. That is a cost borne by the manufacturer, who in turn passes it on to the distributer, who in turn passes it on to the consumer. All this regulation COSTS MONEY to satisfy. All these government bureaucrats who work for the FDA and other regulatory agencies earn salaries WHICH COST MONEY.
