>talking to socialist NDP friend over skype that lives aborad
>conversation comes to politics
>she says it's the best thing ever that sharp Harp is gone
>says it's an improvement
>I say the Liberals are corrupt and I would have preferred a conservative minority or an NDP minority thus hiding my power level
>"How can you support bill C-51 anon?"
>I respond that there's no evidence that it's spying on innocent Canadians, there's most likely probable cause and they aren't spying on anybody for the lulz and there are terrorists in the country
>skype conversation ended abruptly, says he can't talk to me right now before I can cite examples of foiled terrorist plots in Canada and the parliament shooter last year as proof
>he can't talk to me right now
>skype conversation is ended
>may have lost a friend

I've known this guy for ages and he was the best man at my wedding but I'm sick of hiding my power level so I'm not going to anymore. Why can't these people deal with different points of view /pol/? Why didn't he talk like a civilized person so we could compare ideas and have a discussion?

That's a damn shame. Looks like I lost a friend because I have a different point of view than him.

Why do they get so overly emotional and defenxive?

Harper and Abbot now those were men.

Who's Abbot?

NDP/Libs are like this. Completely intolerant of anyone who disagrees with them. It's impossible to talk about politics in public in Canada without getting whined at by triggered libshits because these people are such pricks.

So I guess leftists are unable to debate or have conversations with people that have different points of view.
>>
>>55221435
The thing is I've known this guy for a long time so him reacting this way was totally unexpected and confused me a lot.

I always thought the intolerance was for the crazy SJ Ws but I guess it extends to that whole end of the political spectrum. This is the first time I've ever had it happen to me....I suppose it won't be the last.

>Why can't these people deal with different points of view /pol/?
For the same reason you struggled to come out of the closet, it's easier to conform than it is to swim against the tide. I see threads on /pol/ almost daily now asking 'how do I re-take the blue pill?', it's pitiful that people have become so unprincipled and suspend themselves in this faux-reality just to maintain the status quo.

That makes a lot of sense, actually, it's just a whole lot easier to go with the majority of people then to swim upstream and against the grain. I'm not taking that blue pill no matter what.
>>55221799
If you're referring to myself in the conversation, it was the NDPer that ended the conversation and hasn't said a thing since I disagreed with him. I'm fine with different opinions as that's how people grow and become more educated and civilized. The man's gay and I really don't give a fuck.

Can't believe my province made the mistake of electing the NDP to provincial government. On the bright side, they are running Alberta into the ground so fast they won't be re-elected ever again.

The other day I told my feminist liberal dad that transgenders are crazy and need to be threated accordingly. ''Are you serious anonson? Why does it matter to you it's their body!! And so what do you think about gay people or crossdressers? I don't want to discuss this with you.'' Believe me I have liberal family and there is absolutly no way to have any discussion with these people. It's because they are acting like girls, you can't use logic and when you come with facts it's like they can't face the truth.
>>
>>55221163
i can understand why a female can be emotional when you talk shit about feminism. I can understand why a black dude can be offended when you talk shit about nigga in america.

But i dont get why they're emotional when you have a neutral difference in x point of view. It's not like harper raped your friend or something i just don't get it. There's literally no debate or point of view that will make me emotional

OP what you are witnessing in your friend's reaction is called cognitive dissonance. And I don't mean in the hurr durr sense of "Lol friend I totally dropped some knowledge on you and red-pilled you with the truth and now you are forced to confront your earlier incorrectly held beliefs because I totally disproved them."

Rather, your friend is dealing with cognitive dissonance relating to underlying assumptions or rationalizations that people on the left frequently make. The left generally assumes that anyone who disagrees with them or supports right leaning positions or candidates must be motivated by evil or selfish goals. They assume this because they think their policies are objectively "good" and so self-evident to anyone that the literally only reason a person could oppose them is because that person is "not good". This can be seen in how leftists try to dismiss right leaning positions and candidates without thought or consideration. It is usually something like, "oh that person must be racist, sexist, bigot, hater, greedy, hates the poor" etc.

This underlying assumption is challenged on its face when he discovers that you, his friend, someone who he has known for a long time appears to earnestly hold beliefs that only evil people can hold. This causes feelings of emotional and intellectual discomfort in him as he is forced to try to reconcile two seemingly conflicting positions. My friend who I've known for a long time is a person who I like and genuinely think is a nice decent person. And also, anyone who supports these right leaning positions must be a bad person motivated out of hate or greed.
>>
>>55222192
So they're all like that? It's almost like they don't want their ideas challenged and want to stay in a hugbox with people that are all like them. This is my first encounter with this so I'm a bit surprised the memes are true.

>>55222498
I'm the same as you, anon, I just don't get emotional when it comes to talks about politics or different points of view since I'm fine with people disagreeing with me. I legitimately don't understand how someone can be this upset that I'm alright with Harper's policies and that C-51 is fine. It's not like I was talking about hot button issues like abortion, rape, or feminism. It truly is a conundrum but perhaps emotions just aren't meant to be looked at logically.
>>55222761
I believe you have me confused with my NDP friend.

This is an amazing post that explains what just happened to a T. Thank you, Ameribro.

It looks like most leftists have this crazy, unrealistic "us versus them" stereotype going on where they are the true superheroes of the universe.
>>
>>55223529
That being said if he is your friend you should still try to be friends with him. Don't go looking for political arguments but if he brings them up don't be afraid to state what your honest beliefs are.

The first step in red-pilling a person on the left is getting them to understand that believing in right-leaning policies doesn't make that person a "bad" person. Despite all the evidence one may cite to a person, that person will never support a position that they think is evil or only held by evil people.

The more he continues to see you a friend hold positions that he deemed 'evil'. The more he will be able to break free form the good vs. evil idea common in the lefties.

Your so-called friend is not really your friend. Consider the Scientologists, for example, they cut off all contact with anyone they've been programmed to believe as Oppressive Person. You're not a component of the echo chamber, Anon, you've not been completely colonized by the hive mind. Your 'friend' is trying to ostracize you, the passive aggressive reward / punishment algorithm in the programming has been 'triggered'. When you grovel and beg and explain how you were so wrong and now see the error of your ways, only then will you be given the privilege of friendship. You see?

Or, could just be that Skype went gonzo on you, maybe reboot, see if that helps.

When I was 16 one of my aunts posted something about teachers needing more money to teach kids properly because "they're so underpaid ;(" so I posted a graph showing the increase in US education budget compared to test results and said that there wasn't any indication that raising education spending correlated with better learning, and within hours a bunch of her friends who were teachers (She's from Toronto and makes lots of friends) we're posting calling the graph I'd posted "Propaganda" and saying I didn't understand what it was like for those poor highschool kids. This was ironic considering I was 16 at the time and was going to a poorly funded public highschool.

To be fair. There was no way in hell NDP could have won. Harper piece of lying corrupt shit had to go.

And if that meant giving Trudeau a try, so be it.

So what if some conservative greedy keks in Alberta/saskatchewan worry only about themselves and "their" oil.

Harper had to go, and Trudeau was the only way to assure it.

If NDP had a bit more balls and there was a candidate that could connect better and more charisma maybe i would have voted.

But there was no way that bearded kek could have won.

That's a justifiable response to the madness that your sister had. She was just feeling with her feels and is used to living in a hugbox where no one has any dissenting points of view, or even more realistic points of view. I had no idea that it was so bad but it is.

Something tells me that if I had that conversation with my friend that he would have done something similar to your sister.
>>55225688
Wait, wait, wait. They were teachers in TORONTO? Those teachers make 6 figures by the end of their career for quite some time which is why the oldies refuse to quit. That case can't even be made in Ontario.

If teachers were given performance-based raises and had more competition then they would be forced to improve themselves.

Your high school self is smarter then a group of older teachers. Take it in, f am. This is life and you can't wake up.

I would've been fine with Mulcair winning a minority or Harper winning another majority/ minority but with Trudeau...he doesn't run his ship. He's not the leader and it shows even in the cabinet when so many names come up for positions like acting as the PM should anything happen to him. Stephan Dion is right up there in the name bracket so perhaps he is secretly leading the charge. Just food for thought.

Weak minority between NDP and Cons (either as PM or opposition) would have been the best option.

Of course we get almost exactly the worst outcome. Even the fucking Bloc has partially come back due to Mulcair being so fucking retarded about Québec. This was one of the worst elections we've had since before WWII.
