As others have said, it's part of his branding. It's recognizable and iconic. But it also acts as a useful lightning rod. It attracts criticism and marvel and sometimes mimicry, but it's okay because he made it so that he's 'in on the joke' because he admits his hair is strange and a focal point of his personality.
