The whole point of marriage, if you go way back and reduce it to its simplest explanation, is to create an institution in which the men of society have maximal satisfaction.
Think of it this way, When there are a couple guys who are wifing the majority of women, that means there are lots of betas. Additionally, they get to work the bare minimum instead of working to support an entire family, so that means they're not as productive. Our laws were written with a though of monogamy. In standard marriage, things like alimony, custody, community property, premarital agreement etc. are ''relatively'' easy to take care of. Now try to imagine what would happen, where guy married to two women gets divorce with one of them, how division of property would happen?
