There's portions of Ireland that care enough about trying to preserve their culture that they still predominantly speak gaelic (see gaeltacht regions). The GAA, as bullshit as it is in many ways, continues to promote Irish sports in a way that is determined to keep them close to their roots, requiring the use of gaelic in official communications and requiring that athletes remain "amateurs".
They're a pretty friendly and open bunch, and always up for some good craic.
