Tattoos are "questionable", but not necessarily "bad". As I always tell everyone, if I was to get a tattoo, I would get something to remind me of something I don't want to forget(think of the movie "Memento"). It would be the equivalent of keeping a picture of your kids in your wallet, but on your body.
The problem with tattoos, is that many of the people who get them, are getting them for the sole purpose of showing off, or otherwise getting attention. Thus, it is the equivalent of how black men are generally less-trusted by society, because black men have such a high crime-rate. Tattoos are disliked, because in most cases, people who get them, especially in areas where people can actually see them, are a bunch of low-life degenerates.
Further, as a general rule, most people don't really like the idea of their grandmother to be all tatted up. If you wouldn't approve of your grandmother rocking a sleeve tattoo, you shouldn't get one either.
With that said, I have no intention whatsoever of getting a tattoo. And I would strongly discourage anyone I care about from getting one.
