Ask him what he thinks communism is. At least he should be able to fully understand it and define it to be able to stand for it.
If he can do that, then so be it.
If I were you I would ask a bunch of socialist questions etc then Finnish with a leading question like: "You think every people have the right to their own land, like Kurds, Jews etc?" and "Is homogeneity important for a whole country to feel connected through all classes to work together?"

Show him history, man. Show him what happens under authoritarian rule. Show him how Boris Yeltsin renounced bolshevism after seeing a single american supermarket. Show him the death squads the soviets had. Show him the breadlines and how inefficient and dangerous that system is.
Also make him aware that everything he probably enjoys from video games to his phone to his computer are all products of capitalism.
