That is because viruses are technically not alive. If you take one out and study it by itself, nothing happens. They only kick into action when they are inside a living cell/organism.

I personally believe that Viruses are actually cellular swan songs. Or cellular manifestos, if you will.

Basically, bacteria have mechanisms for horizontal gene transfer that involve the use of plasmids. These plasmids contain small snippets of DNA that other surrounding cells can potentially incorporate into their own systems. As a result, these bacteria are capable of passing on their genetics without actually reproducing, which is one of the reason that bacteria are so efficient at surviving antibiotics if not treated properly.

In that same sense, I'm convinced viruses have similar origins. Rather than being a predecessor to cellular life forms, they are a derivative of it. That is to say, lifeforms "delibrately" (and I use this word extremely liberally) created viruses for the sake of imparting their own genetics onto other cells.

In other words, Viruses did not lead to life. Life, instead, lead to viruses and viruses are the tools of the trade.

As you all know certain fungus produce penicillin yes? Well the same way that the fungus produces that substance certain cells produce a "weapon" against other cells if you will. A small weapon to fight other cells with. Unlike out White blood cells that make contact with ba shit to eat and kill it the virus comes from a cell that wishes to "missile" opponents cells... And thus the mini game of war continues in the microscopic kingdom.

Viruses sometimes get absorbed, malfolded and then replicated and thus "evolve" but they started out as a piece of a cell...

Basically...take a cell...and remove the part of its brain that is agressive...you have these evil little fuckers

But cancer doesn't beget more cancer.
That is to say, you're not going to get cancer from someone who has cancer unless it's something like HPV.

Seems to me like viruses wouldn't be nearly as prolific as they are if there wasn't some sort of benefit for cells having them around, and I'm inclined to believe that horizontal gene transfer has a lot to do with it.

Not in the same sense that viruses do.

Cancer cells still maintain their genetic identity when they spread.
Viruses don't.

I'm not an atheist or a monotheist.

You fundamentalist faggots should be aware something before you make threads like this one based on shit tier logic though:

>A Boltzmann brain is a hypothesized self aware entity which arises due to random fluctuations out of a state of chaos. The idea is named for the physicist Ludwig Boltzmann (1844–1906), who advanced an idea that the Universe is observed to be in a highly improbable non-equilibrium state because only when such states randomly occur can brains exist to be aware of the Universe. The term for this idea was then coined in 2004 by Andreas Albrecht and Lorenzo Sorbo.[1]

>>55197377

The Miller-Urey experiment shows that components of organic life can be made from inorganic compounds, so its entirely possible for viruses and life to gradually evolve into what they are now

Christianity resents every other religion... hmm...

gg

New Atheism takes form in two lines of argument, both that there is no proof for God, but also propagates that people shouldn't hedge their bets with Pascals Wager (giving power to those who wield secular power in the name of Allah etc), because the morality of such a proposed deity is horrid. Its ambitious but is so to knock supporters out of the status quo: "but good things", side of religion.

Honestly I wouldn't give a shit if Christians weren't trying to preform the same process of cultural Marxism in education without being Marxist, and Muslims literally blow themselves up for their God to name only two.

Whatever man, you can pick on my grammar all you want, but my point still stands. We still have no grasp on why cells decided to obtain nutrients to keep replicating, or how the mechanism of that decision even originated.

Something else I don't understand with Atheists is that if you think we are all governed by chemistry and physics, then you are saying that no one has free will and we are all byproducts of a linear biochemical reaction in our synapses. We all just make decisions based on genetic predisposition and past experiences.

Whats weird about this is, if no one really makes any choices, then the whole idea of a multiverse existing where different outcomes exist in parallel universes can't exist. Since there is no possibility for someone to make a different choice, since we don't have free will.

Self replicating proteins, like RNA Polymerase 1 and 3, have to have nucleotide bases freely available, but you have to have energy to prompt this reaction to start. And don't give me shit about ATP, because the formation of that molecule takes a lot of shit that would have had to start pre-central dogma.

It's a protein. The "legs" are meant to latch on to a bacteria, where the "base" can then attach itself onto the cell wall, causing enzymes to be released that then cut a hole in the cell, where the DNA enters the cell, and begins to produce more bacteriophage.

Structure is function for protein.

Math is discovered
at it's most basic math is just counting
everything is made of a numerical amount of parts
and the laws of 2d and 3d geometry are a natural part of this reality

Humans merely invented a base 10 numerical system
to count the natural mathematics already inherent in the universe around us.
all we did was invent a numerical language
through which we interpret the mathematics naturally surrounding us

Do you know how many enzymes it takes just to do glycolysis?

Or how embedded everything is with the citric acid cycle and the pentosephosphate pathway. its a lot of fucking shit. Making ATP isn't some spontaneous shit, especially an amount that would be enough for RNA to replicate and then mutate enough so that it could eventually evolve a process where the phosopholipid bilayer that surrounds itself wouldn't bust while replicating.

actually it is, since all those reactions in that glycosis cycle are spontaneous, if they didn't happen on their own the reaction wouldn't go regardless if you could push the reaction unfavorably into stability.

Evolution is driven by genetics,
and the death of inferior life.
and driven by mutation, and adaptation.

the basics of life is that the organism is an Organic chemical-ionic mechanical machine
the genetic code programs how an organism assembles, and maintains itself
it also programs basic instincts, and the personality of higher life forms.

in truth DNA is a genetic machine language, written in chemical format
it is base 4, with 6 bit bytes

the question lies in asking, which came first?
the machine or the programming language?
also
how did a programming language evolve
prior to the existence of the computer it was designed for?
>>
>>55200788
I think >>55200673 is referring to the Miller-Urey experiment where they simulated a lightning strike/volcanic activity/high heat as a catalyst for the synthesis of organic macromolecules using only the gases and compounds (O2, CO2, N2, some basic alkanes) present during the earliest stages of the Earth's development.

The experiment found that yes, larger organic molecules that are similar to some of the more fundamental ones we see today (nucleic acids, amino acids, fatty alkyl chains, etc), and demonstrated that it's feasible for organic compounds to arise from inorganic ones.

It really just proved one small step in the process of going from space dust to sentient life, but that doesn't mean that it's insignificant, kind of like your fucking opinion that some space god came down, made a virus, then left.

>>55200637
>Their purpose is to replicate.
But like he said, if they ever perfect their replication to the point that it defeats the defenses of the species they attack, and there is nothing that can stop the species they attack from being infected, the viruses kill off the species. So in essence they've all committed suicide the moment they mutate into an unstoppable force.

The reason viruses are not alive:

>no cellular membrane
>does not ALWAYS contain DNA as genetic material (HIV contains RNA for example)
>does not engage in any cellular respiration (which is the biggest indicator of a life-form)

however, just because they are not alive does not mean they do not function. Viruses rely on cellular hosts for survival. They can reproduce very efficiently if they can penetrate the nucleus of a cell.

personally, textbooks need to emphasis the term "functional" since that's exactly what a virus is. It's a functional unit of matter
