>Be me
>30 next year
>NEET since graduating in a music technology degree 7 years ago (and some NEETs are dead within 10 years)
>Never had a job before then either. Literally never been employed. No references.
>My cv/resume is all music production and IT stuff. quite talented at it, sell music on the web, but makes me a fraction of minimum wage.
>Finally signed on at the jobby on the 30th. so far applying for warehouse, cleaning, housekeeping etc. jobs (would actually enjoy this) and the odd IT job

Is there any hope for me, /pol/, or am I doomed to get trashed indefinitely? Anyone else in a similar trap where lack of previous employment prevents future employment? How to stay confident and optimistic when you know you've made terrible decisions and fucked your life up?

You're fucked forever, should've done STEM in school.

I've spent all this year since January going for epic cross-country walks and lifting. Dropped a good 20lbs or so. It doesn't do anything to change my circumstances though.

>>55178680
I fear you are right. I made the mistake of following a dream/doing what I loved, not being sensible, pragmatic and resourceful.

Christ anon, do a trade at least. All the champagne socialists look down on us as retards but you get 100% /pol/ fuelled banter all day.
>>
>>55178029
Do a bunch of temping jobs and you can fill up your cv without technically lying.
>>
>>55178029
Where exactly do you live? What is the job market like there?
>>
>>55183665
Actually this. Temp work is convenient.
besides, even if it sucks its only for a relativity short while.
>>
You can ALWAYS get a job at a moving company.
They have a high turnover because the job is so insanely hard, they will take anyone willing to work this shit.

You will get decent money, good tips and plenty of old furniture/things people just throw away, which you can sell for extra schekels.

I would suggest saving all that money (shouldn't be that hard as a longtime NEET) to start your own business someday.
Its the only chance you got.
>>
>>55183665
I'm considering temp + voluntary work too. Honestly, since money is fortunately not an immediate concern (this is really the only upside of my situation, but also partly why I haven't been more proactive), I'm quite keen just to do pretty much anything to keep me busy, happy and feeling like I'm improving myself.
>>55183597
I would consider that, too, though I guess I'd need some more advice on what options there are.
>>55183698
I live smack between Bristol and Bath on the A420 (blaze it)
>>
where i live i was told you can't get unemployment unless you were let go for purposes beyond your control

i don't understand how that could be true when i hear how people say "don't care if i get fired, i'll just get unemployment" when they do something careless/lazy at their job

Jobcenters in Scotland are fucking bleak places. I took a job packing fruit and veg just so I wouldn't have to back.

Well why the fuck aren't you honing your Muslic Technology skills and applying for jobs which involve Music Technology?

There are not many "creative" day jobs to apply for in the first place, and the in-house roles that do exist are very competitive. If I see any, I will of course apply for them.

Most creative work is freelance/contracted.
>>
>>55183770
>moving company.
I have experience working in it. its incredibly shit.
>>55178029
I've made music for over 10 years and am in a very similar situation to you.
Although technically i'm not a NEET and have a part time job.
>>
>>55183798
>"don't care if i get fired, i'll just get unemployment"

I guess you'd have to really hate your job in order to think job-seeking is more pleasurable.
>>
Full time working since im 16... I wish I had some NEET years honestly
>>
Fake it till you make it OP. Seriously, make shit up and like use a relative with a different last name, make up a company and give their number. I've lied on so many applications and they never check references unless it's like a armored car driver. You can do it OP if I can, you can!
>>
>>55183770
You're right, but FUCK that's a fucked up job, I've done it a few times now I have a ruptured l5 s1 diask and 2 buldged ones. All that shit catches up to you. My back blew out when I was 26 I'm 37 now.

then brush up on your sales skills, enlarge your networking, get out there and be persistent, you'll land one eventually, then another, and so on. Once you have a couple of satisfied regulars you'll do fine as freelancer, just get those glittering references.

freelancers usually get most of the revenue from few regular customers, occasionally boosted by other one-time opptys, oftenly gained from the network. Downside is vast fluctuation of income, upside is freedom.

Didn't think there was many of us desu

It is very appealing... I did consider setting up as a Sole Trader, paying my own NI contributions and then really pulling my finger out and securing some gigs. Most of the offers I get atm are from younguns who want work done on the cheap or for free ~ after giving away music for free for over a decade I'm tired of that. I've also struggled to figure out how to make my services "local", and not just confined to the web (ie. out of my comfort zone.) My gut instinct is that it'd do me more good to find a Proper Job.
>>55185568
Bath brofists.
>>
Being NEET is great. I get welfare, pretty much free rent in subsidised housing and free food from charities such as the food bank.

I literally spend my day either on runescape or 4chan, in between trips outside to keep somewhat in shape.

No responsibilities, government induced free ride. Come join me in Ontario.

Never considered going into acoustics or audio electronics? Quite a few jobs in acoustics if your willing to move
>>
>>55183789
If you're interested in using music technology, doing volunteer/low paid work for charities/small movie/game studios/youtube channels etc, is a great way to build a portfolio and resume.

any advice how to do this in ontario? i also can be mentally ill. how much money do you get and how easy is it to get the housing?

Nigger, that's called you created, developed, ran, whatever your own small business. You were not unemployed. You were self-employed. Work on your resume.

I'm 30 without a GED but pull down a job overnight at Walmart for the past seven years making double the minimum wage.

Is there any hope for me, /pol/, or am I doomed to get trashed indefinitely?

Its a meme now. Too many are taking it and are passing. The surplus will push down the salaries unfortunately.

Why are you posting on a Mongolian sockpuppet forum and not pounding the pavement and getting a part--time job while you look for a job so you don't have to rely on government handouts?
>>
>>55188792

14.50 an hour aint bad

But, welding jobs start out at 18 an hour, and the certification course at your local college is only $500.
>>
>>55190338
I don't rely on government handouts, in fact I just got a formal letter through today saying that only my National Insurance contributions would be paid, and not jobseeker's allowance. (which is what I expected.)

I am working on my CV today, and will apply for some more jobs this evening, including part-time. So far I have only applied on line, which is what most businesses seem to expect anyway.
>>
>>55190471
>But, welding jobs start out at 18 an hour

No they fucking don't

They start out at ten bucks an hour

I don't know what fantasy land you people live in, that think that welding is a viable employment trajectory that pays more than $13 an hour.

It doesn't
>>
>>55191388

Well, when Olive Garden pays fucking dishwashers 10 an hour...the value of labor is crashing

And no, olive garden is not a fucking franchise, they have regional heads, corporate is above them

They only go online anymore because its easier for them to weed out applicants, also because, this is actually true, they save thousands a year by not printing out paper applications and streamlining it into a few clicks on a computer
>>
>>55191987
Yeah, and they pay line cooks $10 bucks an hour even at high end restaurants

Fuck this world
>>
>>55192183

Why would they pay more when there are millions of Josés that would do it for less?
>>
>>55191388
>>55190471

My teaching job pays $53 an hour if you do the math (it's salaried). I just needed a BA in a foreign language.

I don't get all these idiots who say "learn a trade", unless you count learning a language a "trade".

My teaching job pays

Because the hosts or people upfront need to speak English and look decent, the folks who seat people at tables, would you be seated by a Juan who can barely speak English and smells like dog dung?
