He's actually a fantastic candidate.
The president doesn't actually have much power. He signs laws other people write, and they can pass laws he refuses to sign with just a few extra votes. His judicial and executive appointments have to be confirmed. Even in matters of war, he can't give the army any extra money to fight without congress going along with it. The presidents only real job is communicating to the American people (a very new role), managing the bureaucracy and giving direction to programs, and determining foreign policy.
Webb understands this, and I'm afraid he's the only one that does. Clinton, Sanders, Trump -- they're all talking about the things they'll do as president, and all their plans involve legislation they'll never get through congress. The presidency swings back and forth but in reality our country is very evenly split -- remember that despite have a democrat in the white house for 8 years, we have a GOP led house and senate.
Even Obama has understood this. The few things he actually got through in his term -- mainly the ACA -- were huge compromises. His entire political career has been a string of compromises. Sanders has no such history, and Clinton is beholden to money over all else. Trump is probably the most genuine front runner, but he's also an absolute madman. He belongs in Congress, not in control of the military.
Webb is a natural leader. He respects the opinions of others. He is not afraid to stand up to anyone, foreign leaders or his own president, if he feels they're not showing the respect the situation deserves. He had to be pulled away by another senator after Bush insulted his son serving in Iraq. He's stood strong with opposition to insane liberal policies his fellows have swallowed up. He has integrity, and is willing to make principled decisions.
We don't need more insane change and hopes and dreams. This isn't a dream anymore, it's a nightmare. We need to wake up. Webb is the man who can do that.
