He continued to physically resist. The taser would have been the next step in escalating force since post-lariots, police can't really use batons to just beat the shit out of someone.
Being tasered while resisting arrest doesn't make his attack on the cop any more legal. It sucks that the taser didn't down him, but his response to escalating force was to up it even further. The cop has nowhere to go after that but lethal force.
The kid could have not been a douche and gotten off with a warning, or worst case scenario gotten the arrest thrown out because the basis for the stop was dubious.

This may sound crazy, but in my 15 years of driving in the states before having to relocate to this shitty 3rd world, I used the following strategy and 9/10 I wasn't ticketed.
1. Have your license and registration ready for the officer when they come up to the door
2. Smile and happily give them it.
3. Ask the officer, what is the problem today and talk to them like a normal human being.
I've been pulled over countless times and got a whole 3 tickets. The ones I got cited for I was going at least 25 over the speed limit, so I can say I deserved those.
